Aerification Effects On ‘Innovation’ Zoysiagrass In 2020–2022, Dani Mcfadden, Jack D. Fry

Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station Research Reports

When a thatch layer accumulates on turfgrass it can be detrimental to the stand. A field experiment was initiated to investigate aerification treatments and their influence on thatch (organic matter level), quality, and color of ‘Innovation’ zoysiagrass that was sodded within the past year. Turfgrass that was intensely aerified had less organic matter content in the surface inch of the profile compared to turfgrass that was not aerified. Color was also enhanced in treatments receiving aerification compared to non-aerified turf, which may have been attributed to the trending higher nitrate content in aerified plots. Moderately aerified turf significantly increased rooting …

Treating A Public Health Crisis For Rural Moms – A Comparative Analysis Of Four Rural States Addressing Maternal Opioid Misuse With Medicaid Innovation Models, Jason Semprini

Online Journal of Rural Research & Policy

Objective As we enter the third decade of the opioid crisis, opioid misuse continues its devastating toll on young women, specifically mothers on Medicaid in rural areas. The evolving Medicaid policy landscape has led to coverage and benefit expansion, yet gaps remain for pregnant women with opioid misuse. Further, the myriad of state specific policy decisions related to maternal eligibility and substance abuse benefits have created a seemingly disjoint policy arena for tackling a specific subgroup’s unmet needs. This policy scan aims to investigate the newly implemented 1115 demonstration model for Maternal Opioid Misuse by comparing the approaches of four …

Our Moonshot: Dighton Public Schools, Kelly Arnberger

Educational Considerations

“Through redesign you have the opportunity do whatever you choose to do to make your school reflect the needs and desires of your community. I believe our public-school teachers can do the great things we keep hearing private and charter schools do if we would just let them.” Randy Watson said something to that effect at Dighton in January, 2017. We would now have permission to make our school reflect the true mission, vision, and values of our community without constraint. Sounds great! At least many of us in attendance listening to Dr. Watson that day thought so. We chose …

Kansas Beef Feedlot Managers' Trusted Sources Of Information Concerning An Agroterrorism Event, Kendra Riley, Dwayne Cartmell, Traci Naile

Journal of Applied Communications

Managers of Kansas beef feedlots were surveyed to determine managers’ preferred sources of information about agroterrorism as a foundation for law enforcement programs to disseminate information about protecting American animal agriculture. Developing producers’ awareness of and support for proposed law enforcement initiatives is vital to successfully implementing those strategies. Effective communication with producers depends on identification of producers’ preferred and trusted sources of information related to agrosecurity and agroterrorism. In this study, Kansas beef feedlot managers’ preferences for obtaining agrosecurity and agroterrorism information were described through a descriptive telephone survey. Feedlot managers’ preferences for veterinarians as sources of information were …

Urban Pastoral: Tradition And Innovation In Apollinaire's "Zone" And Rilke's "Zehnte Duineser Elegie", Eleanor E. Ter Horst

Studies in 20th & 21st Century Literature

Two early twentieth-century poets, Rainer Maria Rilke and Guillaume Apollinaire, create new relationships to literary traditions and thus reconfigure the meanings of modernity. In Apollinaire's "Zone" and Rilke's "Tenth Duino Elegy," the city represents what is most distincively modern and revolutionary about poetic practice, yet it also provides a link to the literary and historical past. The city in these poems is a site of poetic potentiality, where time is no longer characterized by the rigid separation between past and present, and where space is not geograpically delineated. Through the poets' use of metaphor and apostrophe, which create a suspension …
