The Personalities Collection is comprised of photographs, newspaper clippings, and other related materials that document the imagery of Black people globally throughout time. This collection is presently 28 boxes in size and evens out to about 44 cubic feet worth of material. This collection was created through the combination and addition of small donations and gift bestowed upon the institution over the decades. Due to the nature of this collection, further additions will be made to the collection as we continue to receive small-scale photographic gifts or donations of individuals. The Bob Adelman Photographs contain roughly 600 black and white photographs documenting leaders and events of the American Civil Rights Movement from the early to late 1960s. Featured prominently in the collection are images depicting James Farmer and C.O.R.E., Martin Luther King Jr., and Malcolm X. The collection also consists of portraits of celebrities such as James Baldwin, Amira Baraka, Sidney Poitier, and Lilian Smith. Additional images depict scenes of African Americans in urban and rural scenes during the 1970s and 1980s.

materials that depicts photographs of different areas and scene in Jamaica. In total, the album consists of 31 pages that house 52 photos that display a variety of locations, landscapes, people, buildings, and other sceneries native to the country. Based on the locations and structures depicted in these photographs, this album likely predate the 1920s, as some of the structures shown were known to have been demolished after that era. Due to the condition of the album, most of the photographs and pages within show considerable signs of age, wear, and fading, placing them in a poor to very poor …

The Barbados Photograph Album is a hardcover album consisting of cardboard-like pages that contain photographs featuring historical landmarks, pictures of individuals, and scenes of the island. It comprises approximately 47 pages, with a few pages (pages 37-45) left empty at the end of the scrapbook, which are still included in the count. In total the album holds 63 photographs of Barbados as well as other islands, such as St. Kitts, Martinique, Antigua, and St. Lucia. Many of the photographs come with descriptions that provide information about where the photo was taken or by whom. The photographs are also quite clear …

Dr. Harold Walter Hargis (1925-2015), a distinguished oral and maxillofacial surgeon, was born in Bluefield, West Virginia on June 11, 1925. His parents were Thomas and Mary Clare Hargis. Dr. Hargis made significant contributions to the field of dentistry.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and subsequently pursued his education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts from Howard University in 1951 and a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the same institution in 1955. During his time at Howard, he met his wife, Mary Frances Diggs, and joined the Omega Psi Phi fraternity.

The LeDroit Park Photograph Collection is a limited edition of ten (10) 12" x 12" gelatin silver print photographs capturing the revitalized LeDroit Park and its surroundings, taken in 2003 by Steven M. Cummings. The LeDroit Park Initiative, spearheaded in the late 1990s by then-Howard University President H. Patrick Swygert and Ms. Jamie Gorelick, Vice Chair of the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae), aimed to renovate and redevelop Howard University-owned properties within the LeDroit Park area. The initiative also explored innovative mortgage rates and payment assistance programs to enhance homeownership opportunities for the university-affiliated and neighboring community. Notably, the …
