Ancestral Wisdom And Spiritual Practices For Healing: Decolonizing Feminist Theory And Pedagogy, Justina N. Trim

African-indigenous spiritual practices, ancestral wisdom, and knowledge that pre-dates the institution of colleges and universities can be seen in multiple perspectives. For instance, this knowledge has been revered, or rejected. In this thesis, I advocate for the importance of understanding these spiritual practices and knowledges and regarding them as a form of healing, pedagogy, and rebellion. Finally, I discuss my curation of exhibits and altars that allow people to access the healing and restorative power of ancestral wisdom.

Cooking is mind, body, spirit work. What’s possible when we ‘drop in’ to our bodies when cooking? We begin noticing what we are energetically bringing to the food we make. This creative project practices a pedagogy that works with food to create healing space. Healing, as it is defined here, is not void of discomfort nor is it happiness all the time. Restorative Notions: Regaining My Voice, Regaining My Father: A Creative Womanist Approach To Healing From Sexual Abuse, Adenike A. Harris

This creative thesis illustrates how the writer initiated a ‘call-and-response’ dialogue as a healing strategy to heal her relationship with her non-abusive biological father after revealing to him that her stepfather had sexually abused her from ages 14 to 22. This memoir both contributes to the field of Women’s Studies and provides an example that other sexual abuse survivors can follow to heal their intimate relationships.
