Social media platforms have become accessible resources for health data analysis. However, the advanced computational techniques involved in big data text mining and analysis are challenging for public health data analysts to apply. This study proposes and explores the feasibility of a novel yet straightforward method by regressing the outcome of interest on the aggregated influence scores for association and/or classification analyses based on generalized linear models. The method reduces the document term matrix by transforming text data into a continuous summary score, thereby reducing the data dimension substantially and easing the data sparsity issue of the term matrix. To …

Bios 6331: Regression Analysis In Biostatistics, Jingjing Yin
Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health Syllabi
This course introduces the methods for analyzing biomedical and health related data using linear regression models. The course will introduce the student to some basic theories in linear models but would mainly focus on applied linear model fitting, regression parameter estimation and hypothesis testing. The course will involve model selection, diagnosis and remedial techniques to correct for assumption violations. The students will learn how to apply SAS procedures PROC REG, PROC CORR, and PROC GLM and interpret the results of analysis. Emphasis will also be placed on the development of critical thinking skills.

All Possible Regressions Using Ibm Spss: A Practitioner’S Guide To Automatic Linear Modeling, T. Chris Oshima, Theresa Dell-Ross

Although the all possible subsets regression procedure (or all possible regressions) has been a preferred method for selecting the “best” model in multiple regression, it might not have been the most frequently used method by SPSS users partly due to its time consuming nature of evaluating all possible combinations of multiple regression models. Starting with Version 19, however, IBM SPSS introduced a new procedure called Automatic Linear Modeling, enabling researchers to select best subsets automatically. While the arrival of this new procedure is highly welcomed by researchers, practitioners, and students, it has also raised a potential threat of misuse due …

The Relationship Between Social Media And Empathy, Franklin M. Collins
The Relationship Between Social Media And Empathy, Franklin M. Collins
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The relationship between social media and empathy has not been explored extensively. Research on the expression of emotion and the association with empathy displayed on social media websites have been minimally explored. This study sought to support findings that chatting online leads to expressions of empathy (Rosen, 2012) and a positive relationship exists between conversing with others online and empathic expression (Ivcevic & Ambady, 2012. Empathic concern was hypothesized to show a positive relationship with one’s likelihood to chat, time on Facebook, and emotional connection to Facebook or Facebook usage. Empathic concern also was predicted to be greater among computer …

Revising Common Core Georgia Performance Standards Statistics Lesson Plans To Better Align With Statistical Practice, Rachel Bonilla
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In this thesis, lesson plans provided by the Georgia Department of Education are revised to give students better exposure and practice working with real-life data. Three learning tasks and a performance task are presented covering a unit lesson on statistical regression. The development of Georgia statistics curriculum standards are reviewed and presented.
