As public demands for school accountability continue to increase due to federal legislation such as the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, educators struggle to meet rising minimum standards. In an effort to address these pressures and search for ways to improve, educators consider implementing a professional learning community model which focuses on the improvement of teaching and learning. Georgia's Special Education Directors' Roles In The Implementation Of Inclusion, Larry Michael Newton

The purpose of the study was to investigate the roles of Georgia's special education directors in the implementation of inclusion. The researcher surveyed directors' role involvement with inclusion implementation at the district and school levels across eight major categories. Demographic data were collected on the previous work experiences, number of students with disabilities in the school system, and the percentage of students with disabilities served in the general classroom. The researcher used a focus group to investigate the roles of Georgia's directors. Sixty-four percent of Georgia's directors completed the survey, and three directors participated in the focus group. The primary purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions of personnel directors on strategies that are currently being used to retain teachers in the absence of a state-wide retention policy in the state of Georgia. Data collection methods were structured based on the review of literature. Components of the survey were sampled on six personnel directors in order to ensure that all areas of the topic were discussed. Assessment Of The Criteria Used To Evaluate The Effectiveness Of Different Types Of Alternative Education Programs In Georgia, Angela Elizabeth Pope

This study examined the current assessment criteria utilized to evaluate the effectiveness of various alternative education programs within the state of Georgia. The population surveyed included alternative program principals for the year 2005-2006, from a list provided by the Georgia Department of Education. A survey instrument was constructed based on a synthesis of the existing literature on alternative education programs and was e-mailed to 207 principals within the state. The survey consisted of 20 multiple-choice items and three open-ended questions. Only 25 surveys were returned, which represented a 12.08% response rate. Various commercially important marine species are known to utilize the salt marsh; research has shown that marsh infauna play an important role in the diets of these species. The distribution and abundance of some of these infauna has been shown to be influenced by vegetative cover. In 2001, salt marshes along the coast of Georgia began to die, resulting in the loss of the dominant vegetation. During the summer of 2005, six 0.5 x 0.5 meter quadrats were haphazardly placed and set up permanently in the low marsh at two study sites along the Crooked River in vegetated and unvegetated …

This dissertation is an inquiry into the educational leadership style of Marvin Summers Pittman, April 12, 1882-February 27, 1954. Pittman was a transformational leader with a vision to set goals that sometimes appeared to be outside the box during his time as an educational leader. Pittman introduced new and innovative programs in education, including his zone plan for teacher training, and theories for the consolidation of schools. Pittman understood that education was the tool needed to give power back to the people, and to enable them to be productive citizens. Education was Pittman's tool to bring the poor farm boy …
