In this fast-paced society, municipal governments struggle to keep up with venues of communication to relay information to their public. As of 2017, an estimation of 23 million people follow Twitter accounts maintained by government entities. Residents depend on social media more than going to their represented municipal websites for information. Today, government employees struggle to produce information that the public can read and understand. Beyond "Real Life": Activism And Harassment In The Social Justice Blogosphere, Maryann Kozlowski

This thesis examines harassment that takes place online, specifically on websites that focus on issues of social justice from a feminist perspective. The content I examine is a form of activism in which writers and readers work together to form communities online. I also examine online protests as a form of activism. As a result of these Internet publications and protests, many writers face harassment and degradation as they attempt to express themselves in virtual spaces.
