Transnational Identities In National Politics: The Spd And The German Peace Movements, 1921 - 1966, Shelley E. Rose

Transnational Identities in National Politics problematizes the relationship between the German Social Democratic Party (SPD) and pacifists on the non-Communist Left between 1921 and 1966. It breaks from traditional master narratives by using gender, transnational, and biographical analysis to reveal understudied continuities and shifting political spaces in German politics. Rose explores the foundations of “masculine” characterizations of party politics and tensions created by common perceptions that ethical pacifism was “feminine.” Additionally, her analysis reveals that although the SPD maintained its reputation as a “peace party,” SPD leaders‘ conception of peace changed over time. This capstone was completed at the Cleveland VA Medical Center and included the development and implementation of a 6-week mental health program for veterans with spinal cord injuries. The program provided veterans with resources and positive coping strategies to improve mental health, while providing therapists with evidence-based interventions to address inpatient veteran well-being. Implications of this project outline the benefits to providing group-based interventions to address mental health concerns and the importance of destigmatizing access to mental health services within the veteran population.

According to SAMHSA, more than 66% of children report that they have experienced at least one traumatic event by the age of 16. The focus of this capstone project was create a trauma-informed care professional development program to equip K-12 educators in traditional school settings so that they can address trauma in their students appropriately and successfully. This was done through understanding, working with, and implementing the Every Moment Counts mental health promotion initiative with the students at Bridges Learning Center in Akron Public Schools.

y program aims to address obesity by educating faculty, children, and parents on proper nutrition and exercise to provide kids with the resources to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Students participated in groups incorporating fun ways to exercise, learning about food groups, creating food crafts with healthy foods, then trying those foods at their leisure. The idea is to expose them to new and/or healthier foods to expand their options for a healthier diet. Resources were also sent home for parents to give them fun activities to do at home that will continue developing their child’s knowledge and expand their palate.

This capstone was at the Cleveland clinic Hand Therapy Department. It focused on exploring, identifying and creating ways to enhance the use of occupation into evaluations and interventions for individuals with hand and other upper extremity conditions. This was done by identifying five evidence and occupation-based recommendations that could be implemented and explored at the Cleveland Clinic (research on outcome measures, updating a handout to address activities of daily living (ADLs) while wearing a splint, updated ADL kits, creating treatment cards, and created a manipulation board). This information was disseminated to the hand therapists for future use in practice.
