Monarch Services is a non-profit organization within Santa Cruz county. The agency provides services for domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Campos Seguros focuses on providing resources and advocacy to vulnerable populations, specifically Campesinos (farmworkers). Violence and abuse perpetrated against farm workers is an issue that demands more public attention and advocacy. Campesinos are highly vulnerable because of different contributing factors, these include immigration status, work uncertainty, and language barriers. Consequences include trauma, lack of reporting, and vulnerability to labor trafficking. Sexual abuse is highly prevalent within the agricultural realm; many employers can take advantage of Campesino’s vulnerable position. …

Jacob’s Heart provides counseling services, direct financial support, food assistance, and transportation services at no cost to the families they serve. I wanted to create a piece that reflects the positive impact mutual aid can have and has had on communities, especially during the time of this pandemic. I was inspired by mutual aid organizations bringing communities together and helping build futures. Salinas Community YMCA is part of the regional Central Coast YMCA that provides services to youth and adults. The broader health problem is that the rates of prediabetes in Monterey County are too high among adults with nearly half having the disease. There are not enough people seeking substance abuse services in King City. Co-occurring mental illness, delays in Medi-Cal process, and lack of knowledge about the program and services at the new Sun Street site are contributing factors to this problem. This capstone project was implemented by the Community and Economic Development department of the City of Pacific Grove. The social problem is the high rate of home deterioration among low-income seniors. In order to address this issue, an outreach event was implemented to advertise the Housing Rehabilitation Loan program and organizations with similar target populations. The purpose of this event was to advertise local resources to the public. Family caregivers of hospice patients experience an increased burden due to providing ongoing care. Research on the issue produces no consensus on evidence-based programs to alleviate the burden. Respite or relief services continue to be the primary solution applied to the problem. Central Coast Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice supported a project to address caregiver burden. Hospice provides volunteers to families to reduce the caregiver burden.
