Never Again Is Now: A Study Into Intergenerational Trauma, Madeline Boettcher May 2020

Never Again Is Now: A Study Into Intergenerational Trauma, Madeline Boettcher

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

Our history is filled with atrocities which have shaped the current structures of injustice we face today. The Japanese Internment, the Holocaust and the Indian Boarding Schools are just some examples which have poisoned communities with trauma. Since these past injustices have been presented through a patriotic lens the full scope of accountability has not been addressed. This lack of accountability has perpetuated structures of oppression and lead to scenarios in which marginalized communities could continue to be mistreated. History is repeating itself at the United States and Mexican boarder, as families and children are torn apart and put in …

Trauma On The Border: Immigrant Children In Detention Centers, Yosseline Pacheco

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

Between the year 2018 through 2019, there has been a sixty-percent increase in unaccompanied children at the Southwest border where they are later transferred to the care of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). The dramatic increase in undocumented children are immigrants from Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador (the Northern Triangle countries of Central America). (Cardosa, Brabeek, Stinchcomb, Heidbrink, Price, Fil.Garcia, Crea & Zayas pg 1,2). During those two years the Trump administration passed many harsh policies designed to decrease the flow of migration, yet it has only done the opposite with the new formations of caravans that are headed …

Forbidden Citizens: The Chinese Diaspora Of Monterey Bay, Veronica Sanchez Dec 2018

Forbidden Citizens: The Chinese Diaspora Of Monterey Bay, Veronica Sanchez

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

The purpose of this essay is to educate California State University Monterey Bay students, the professors, and members of the Marina, Seaside, and Monterey community about the oppressive history that occurred in Pacific Grove towards the early Chinese who traveled to California. As far as research methods go, I read scholarly articles that included a history of the reoccurring conflicts between the Chinese fishermen and the business along Cannery Row, and books on what the Chinese endured while traveling to California. I attended events in the town of Pacific Grove that relate back to my topic, such as The Walk …

Through this capstone, I wanted to bring awareness to the Japanese elderly as well as generate light on the topic.

Addressing The Impact Of Deportation On Citizen Children And Their Undocumented Parents, Ismael Mondragon

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

A vast number of parents/children are been affected with high levels of anxiety, depression, and stress when their families are been separated due to deportation. Therefore, I conducted two sets of interviews, a parent component that consisted of eight questions and a child component that consisted of eleven questions. The interviews took approximately 10 minutes each. I interview a small group of six participants, three adults and three children who have gone through the devastated experience of having a family member deported. Hearing the participants experiences I learned that there are not enough programs in the community to help families …

Regulating The Population : Day Laborers And The Comprehensive Immigration Reform, Caitlin Urie Jan 2007

Regulating The Population : Day Laborers And The Comprehensive Immigration Reform, Caitlin Urie

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act was created without representation on behalf of the immigrant population it is attempting the legislate. This study assesses not what the law is but what the law does. To understand the relationship of a group of immigrant workers to the federal legislation which targets them I conducted a participant-observation ethnography of day laborers at a public hiring site collecting information through informal interviews with male immigrant day laborers seeking employment. I will compliment this data with a content analysis of publications and solicitations by organizations actively lobbying in the immigration reform debate at the national …
