The Monterey Peninsula College (MPC) Foundation is a nonprofit organization that acts as the fundraising arm to Monterey Peninsula College. The agency serves all students attending MPC. The macro-level problem that this capstone addresses is that there are too many students dropping out of college. The MPC Foundation is able to address the issue by providing financial assistance to alleviate the stress of college and the cost of living expenses for students in need. Mesa Verde Gardens has been a great asset in the Watsonville and Pajaro area by providing a unique way for people to live healthier lives. The community gardens have given people an opportunity to reach new standards for themselves. The organic produce being grown out of the seven different gardens in the area has accommodated the gardeners with delicious food for the entire season. In order to grow Mesa verde Gardens, an outreach project was conducted to allow people to familiarize with all seven gardens. Salinas Community YMCA is part of the regional Central Coast YMCA that provides services to youth and adults. The broader health problem is that the rates of prediabetes in Monterey County are too high among adults with nearly half having the disease. The agency problem that this project addresses is the community of Salinas does not know about the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) which has resulted in low enrollment. This educational outreach project consisted of tabling events held at three Salinas pharmacies, providing information on the DPP and the risks for diabetes. It serves Children with Pediatric Cancer and their families in the counties of Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito, and South Santa Clara. When families are given a diagnosis of cancer, especially their child’s many of them undergo high levels of stress and face financial instability.
