Rancho San Juan High School in Salinas California serves students from ninth to eleventh grade. The problem at this agency is students in need of skills to cope with stress and anxiety. The contributing factors to the problem are unhealthy relationships, family problems, pent up emotions, and distance learning due to the pandemic. The consequences of these contributing factors are vaping, anxiety, fighting, and depression. A powerpoint presentation was presented to those students who need coping skills for stress, depression, and anxiety. The Latinx community at the Epicenter in Salinas dealt with mental health illnesses, as well as were brought up with machismo attitudes. This population has a strong stigma against getting help with their mental health. Being faced with immigration, poverty, discrimination and inadequite conversations about health, drives a spike in anxiety levels. Consequences of not dealing with mental health illnesses include unresolved emotions are generational trauma, self harm, substance abuse, and unhealthy relationships. Greenfield High School is located in South Monterey County. The community served is primarily Latino and they are below poverty level. The majority of the residents that reside in this community are field workers. The macro-level problem that this capstone addresses is that too many high school-age students are experiencing depression and anxiety. Greenfield High School has experienced budget cuts, which make it difficult to address all students' needs. As time goes by, students with mental health issues are on the rise. Students who have mental health issues face a variety of different consequences. The consequences vary from mild to severe, and that suicide being the most severe consequence. Students suffer from depression, anxiety, and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder are only some of the few of the mental health issues that students face.
