The Link Between Social Media And Body Image Issues Among Youth In The United States, James Krzymowski
The Link Between Social Media And Body Image Issues Among Youth In The United States, James Krzymowski
Ballard Brief
Social media has a pervasive impact on body image in the United States, influencing one’s mental, physical, and social health. Body image issues encompass negative feelings and experiences related to one's physical appearance and are characterized by a preoccupation with perceived physical defects. This occurrence is especially common among youth. The harmful effects of constant exposure to idealized images, unrealistic beauty standards, and the influence of social media influencers are wide-ranging and severe. This brief focuses on the United States because of the competitive culture, the high cosmetic surgery rates, and leadership in social media use. Contributing factors such as …
The Field, Karen Abbott
The Field, Karen Abbott
Children's Book and Media Review
A young islander kicks a soccer ball around for a bit until he ends up near a field. He rounds up friends and family for a game. First they must drive the cows from the field and create a game space with goal posts. The game is on! Neither rain nor mothers calling them home can stop the youth or the referee once the game has begun. They play and play until the mothers have had enough. Even in bed these young boys dream of football.

Us, In Progress: Stories About Young Latinos, Bailey Ondricek
Children's Book and Media Review
From poverty to health crises, to moving to a new place, Lulu Delacre’s Us in Progress is a collection of short stories that provides a range of life experiences from young latinos/latinas in the United States. Based on true stories that Delacre gathered from news articles and personal experiences, the authenticity of the characters is both relatable and relevant. The stories each begin with a uniquely Spanish saying and a beautiful illustration of the story’s main character. While the stories are punctuated with some Spanish vocabulary, Delacre provides a set of translations in the back, thus making the impactful stories accessible …
Religious Literacies As Social Practice: A Latterday Saint Perspective, Eric D. Rackley
Religious Literacies As Social Practice: A Latterday Saint Perspective, Eric D. Rackley
Religious Educator: Perspectives on the Restored Gospel
Although we are learning more about how young people make sense of religious truths, there is a conspicuous dearth of research examining the meaning-making practices of Latter-day Saint youth. As a result, it is unclear, for example, how Latter-day Saint youth read scripture. What’s working for them? What’s not? How do we know? “Faith without understanding” may be the sardonic standard for religious literacy in the United States, but I am confident that in the Church we can do better. We can help youth develop faith and understanding. Without a clearly articulated conception of religious literacy, however, the Church may …
Principles And Practices For Motivating Youth For Scripture Literacy, Eric D. Rackley, John Hilton Iii
Principles And Practices For Motivating Youth For Scripture Literacy, Eric D. Rackley, John Hilton Iii
Religious Educator: Perspectives on the Restored Gospel
Brother Howard enjoys teaching his students, and his students look forward to coming to class because they know they will learn important gospel truths. But there is a problem: students are not reading their scriptures as often or as carefully as they should. After careful consideration, Brother Howard decides to encourage students to complete their daily scripture reading by assigning course grades based, in part, on how often they read, and giving students daily quizzes that ask them to recall information from their reading. Brother Howard also plans a series of rewards if students complete their reading for a set …

The Impact Of Western Popular Music On Indian Music Culture In Visakhapatnam, Darrik Cheney, Dr. Charles W. Neckolls
Journal of Undergraduate Research
This project was aimed at gathering ethnographic data by identifying trends in popular music preferences among youth in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh, specifically with western influences in mind. Internet Radio, Basketball, And High School Life, Scott Raab, Dr. Sirpa Grierson
Journal of Undergraduate Research
The high school years will always be magical because they never happen again. The new freedoms that many middle class American youth either inherit or seize have made the brief collection of academic years a type of Brigadoon. Although they live in a very different world, high school students of the 21st century will do exactly as their predecessors: what ever they want. When a high school student decides that he or she wants to create an internet based radio station for his school with minimal effort and maximal possibilities, it is entirely possible.
The Feminine Peter Pan, Felicia Jones
The Feminine Peter Pan, Felicia Jones
AWE (A Woman’s Experience)
Cross-casting in performances has effected outrage and social dilemmas in audiences, despite the important cultural messages those characters display. Since its beginning as a play, women have been cast as the young boy Peter in Peter Pan. J.M. Barrie wrote Peter Pan through inspiration from the young deaths of his brother and childhood friend, who will always remain in their youth. In order to capture that youthful innocence, females have been cast as Peter. This choice in casting was also made to achieve androgyny and transcend gender by blurring gender lines.

The Teenage Ambassadors: The Cultural Impact Of Institutionally And Privately Organized Exchanges Of Students, Young Farmers And Youth In General Between Denmark And The United States Since The End Of Wwii., Karsten Kjer Michaelsen
The Bridge
The little more than 300.000 Danes who emigrated to America between 1870 and World War II created a solid foundation for the cultural exchange between the United States and Denmark in many different ways. This exchange takes place on a family level as well as in a professionally managed way via a number of organizations which arrange longer visits in private homes for students, young farmers, and youth in general within the two countries. This paper deals with this aspect of the Danish-American cultural exchange in order to see how and to what extend the exchange students and other young …
Table Talk, L. C. Laursen
Table Talk, L. C. Laursen
The Bridge
Table Talk was prepared for the wedding of Margaret Hansen and Harvey Phillip of Enumclaw, Washington, at which L. C. Laursen was to have officiated. Laursen's sudden illness, an illness from which he did not recover, precluded him from delivering the talk. Table Talk comes from a Notebook Laursen presented to Margaret and Harvey Phillip, which was shown to Ruth and Ove Nielsen. They thought it deserved a wider readership and received permission from Betty Miller, daughter of L. C. Laursen, and Mr. and Mrs. Phillip to submit it for publication in The Bridge.

In June, when the thunderstorms came on the horizon at dusk to bring winter, my sister, Ele, wished from the roof of our home that lightning would stay longer on the sky. I would sit beside her, and once I said, '' If it did then who would care?" It was like telling her that the three kings do not exist and that they do not bring gifts for the new year-a thing which one should not tell a little sister because then she would never find out for herself that some things do not last forever . We agreed …
Melton Street, Mark Crimmins
Melton Street, Mark Crimmins

The first thing I learned when I got to Melton Street was that my mother's definition of a cottage and mine were different. I suppose all those illustrated editions of fairy tales I'd read had given me the impression a cottage was a quaint little white house, nestled in a cradle of hills, l surrounded with flowers and bleating sheep. With this notion in mind, I wasn't too opposed to my mother's plan to move from my first home.
