Texture Classification Using Transform Analysis, Mary Habib Jun 2003

Texture Classification Using Transform Analysis, Mary Habib

Archived Theses and Dissertations

The work presented in this thesis deals with the application of spectral methods for texture classification. The aim of the present work is to introduce a hybrid methodology for texture classification based on a spatial domain global pre-classifier together with a spectral classifier that utilizes multiresolution transform analysis. The reason for developing a spatial pre-classifier is that many discriminating features of textures are present in the spatial domain of the texture. Of these, global features such as intensity histograms and entropies can still add significant information to the texture classification process. The pre-classifier uses texture intensity histograms to derive histogram …

Seismic Bahavior Of Reinforced Concrete Liquid Storage Tanks, Iman Shawky Abdel-Rahman

Archived Theses and Dissertations

This thesis presents a study of the effects of seismic loading on reinforced concrete liquid storage tanks. Stresses and displacements were computed by the finite element method to ascertain that they remain within an acceptable safety range when the tank is subjected to earthquake ground accelerations of varying intensities. In the analysis different parameters were considered. This included tank radius, liquid height, and shell thickness, loading conditions resulting from both hydrostatic and hydrodynamic pressures, and a variety of boundary conditions at the top and bottom of the tank, including a cover dome. The finite element package (ABAQUS) was used to …

Utilization Of Municipal Solid Waste Rejects In The Production Of A Recycled Plastic Waste Composite Material, Mohamed Kamal Abou Khatwa Jun 2003

Utilization Of Municipal Solid Waste Rejects In The Production Of A Recycled Plastic Waste Composite Material, Mohamed Kamal Abou Khatwa

Archived Theses and Dissertations

The solid waste disposal problem has grown significantly in the last decades imposing a lot of pressure on disposal and treatment acts. In the past, incineration and landfilling were the common methods for disposing of products of municipal solid waste. With the increasing volumes of waste generation and the legislative restrictions of these treatment methods, reuse of bulk waste is foreseen as the best alternative to disposal. Due to the current widespread use of plastic products in daily life, post consumer plastics now contribute significantly to municipal solid waste generation rates with a contradicting low participation in waste minimization practices. …

Optimization Of Receptive Fields For Mlp Networks With Ensemble Encoding, Deena Osama Hassan

Archived Theses and Dissertations

Ensemble encoding is a biologically-motivated, distributed data representation scheme for MLP networks. Multiple overlapping receptive fields are used to enhance locality of representation. The number, form, and placement of receptive fields have a great impact on performance. This thesis presents four heuristics, two based on descriptive statistics, and two based on clustering, for optimizing receptive field configuration, and compares their performance on four benchmark data sets. The two statistical approaches are based on the mean and median properties of the data set. The two clustering methods are the c-means and fuzzy c-means clustering. The four data sets used are well-known …

Assessment Of The Readiness Of Egyptian Companies To Implement Business Process Reengineering Programs, Hany Waguih Shoukry

Archived Theses and Dissertations

Business Process Reengineering (BPR) emerged as a performance improvement methodology in 1990. Its objective of radical process redesign to achieve dramatic performance improvements makes it a potential candidate to be applied in most Egyptian companies, especially in the Egyptian private sector that is struggling to upgrade its performance in the new global economy. Although the main problem of BPR is its high probability of failure, which is due to the failure of companies to fulfill all BPR prerequisites, very limited research exists on how to measure the readiness of a company to implement successful BPR programs. The current research addresses …

The Castaway: A Comparative Study Of Alienation In Franz Kafka's "The Trial" And J.M. Coetzee's "Foe", Alia Mohamed Taher Ahmed Tawfik Abou Zeid

Archived Theses and Dissertations

This thesis is a comparative study of alienation. It provides an analysis of the different ways in which the Czech writer, Franz Kafka, and the South African writer, J.M. Coetzee delineate alienation in their works, The Trial and Foe. Three aspects of alienation are discussed: alienation from self, world and language. Hence, the thesis emphasizes that manâ s predicament of alienation, homelessness and exile stems from a failure to recognize a self to which he can relate, an inability to find a home in an alien universe and an incapacity to develop a constructive relationship with words and language. This …
