Rehm's self-control model of depression was evaluated by dismantling the self-control therapy into separate therapies based on self-monitoring plus self-evaluation and self-monitoring plus self-reinforcement training respectively. Seventeen volunteer female subjects selected on the basis of MMPI, Beck Depression Inventory and interview criteria were randomly assigned to the two conditions for six weekly therapy sessions. Results showed significant treatment effects on level of depression, overall pathology, behavioral ratings of verbal response levels and activity reinforcement potential.
