Psychological Needs Of The Elderly : Community, Religious Affiliated Institutions, And Public Institutions, Sharon Bonaventura
Master's Theses
Although research has shown that psychological needs change as a person ages, available data on the relationship of psychological needs and types of residential institutions for the elderly are limited. The purpose of this study was to explore the possible connection between a particular residential environment and the elderly's psychological needs. Forty-five elderly females ages 62 through 89, participated in this study. Subjects were chosen from one of three residential groups, community, religious affiliated institutions, and public institutions. All subjects were asked to complete the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule. In addition, demographic data were collected on each subject. Results from …

The Effects Of Color Reversal On The Maze Performance Of Learning Disabled And Normal Children, Susan Ramsay Knaysi
The Effects Of Color Reversal On The Maze Performance Of Learning Disabled And Normal Children, Susan Ramsay Knaysi
Master's Theses
Recent studies examining the performance of braininjured children (specifically, cerebral palsied children) reported improvement of perceptual-motor abilities on graphic tests with figure-ground reversals (Uhlin & Dickinson, 1970; May, 1978). A pilot study was done to ascertain whether this facilitative effect of color manipulation would be demonstrated with hyperactive children also classified as perceptually impaired. A significant difference in performance was found between the white background/black figure manipulation and the black background/white figure manipulation by age (5-10 year olds). Normal children did not demonstrate this facilitative effect. It was postulated that this effect would generalize to learning disabled children. In the …
Testing The Efficacy Of A Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment For Impulsivity With Female Juvenile Delinquents, Dinaz Lynn Stafford
Testing The Efficacy Of A Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment For Impulsivity With Female Juvenile Delinquents, Dinaz Lynn Stafford
Master's Theses
This experiment was conducted in order to determine the efficacy of cognitive-behavioral treatment, involving self-instructions training for impulsivity, on female juvenile delinquents. An additional consideration was whether instructions educating subjects about the generalizability of self-instructions would lead to a decrease in impulsivity in a classroom situation. Thirty subjects were randomly assigned tp 3 groups - Group 1 being trained in self-instructions and receiving generalizing instructions, Group 2 being trained self-instruction alone, and Group 3 serving as the attentional control group. The Matching Familiar Figures test was admini stered before and after treatment sessions and the Impulsive Behavior Scale was rated …
