Effects Of Casual Attributions Of Performance Outcome On Nature Of Self-Statements And Self-Esteem, Samuel Horace Wood
Effects Of Casual Attributions Of Performance Outcome On Nature Of Self-Statements And Self-Esteem, Samuel Horace Wood
Master's Theses
36 college students participated in a study to determine the role of causal attributions of success and failure on the modification of self-esteem. Although Brockner (1979) has suggested that the key to augmenting self-esteem is the increasing of positive self-evaluation that follows success, several studies suggest that it is not the positive self-evaluation after success but the negative self-evaluations after failure that are crucial in determining one's level of self-esteem. Thus it was hypothesized in the present study that if external attributions were made for failures while internal attributions for success were maintained, self-esteem would increase. Subjects high and low …

Seventy-one Introductory Psychol ogy students were admini stered the Bern Sex-Role Inventory (BSRI), which was scored in terms of the 7 factors introduced by Walker & Preston (1979). Small groups of 3 and 4 individuals were randomly selected to spend 20 minutes in the Child Development Lab, where they had the opportunity to interact with the children, to play with the toys, to observe, and to inter act with each other. Regulation Of Sodium Intake In The Mongolian Gerbil, Kevin Douglas Stark
Regulation Of Sodium Intake In The Mongolian Gerbil, Kevin Douglas Stark
Master's Theses
In the present study, two experiments were conducted to examine how the gerbil (Merinos Unguiculatus) responds to a chronic sodium deficiency. Adult male gerbils with a mean body weight of 79.81 grams, were maintained for a baseline period on a normal Purina Rat Chow and then they were placed on a salt-free diet. In addition they had ad lib access to a salt solution and water in a two bottle test situation. The saline concentration was cut in half and doubled to test for regulation. There was no significant overall increase in saline consumption (expressed as a percentage of total …
State-Trait Anxiety And Incidental Learning Of Shapes And Colors In Learning Disabled Adolescents, Ladonna Gail Cabell
State-Trait Anxiety And Incidental Learning Of Shapes And Colors In Learning Disabled Adolescents, Ladonna Gail Cabell
Master's Theses
The present study attempted to examine the effects of anxiety on incidental learning of colors and shapes. The central task was the learning of six eve syllables with meaningfulness association values between 2.41 and 2.49. The incidental taslc was the learning of the color or shape that the syllable was printed on. The subjects were thirty-four male and female adolescents identified as learning disabled. The subjects were divided into three anxiety groups (high, medium and low) using Spielberger's State Trait Anxiety Inventory. The results· indicated that anxiety (state or trait) had no significant effect on incidental learning in adolescent subjects. …

Locus Of Control Modification As A Function Of Siituational Control And Performance Feedback : A Replication And Extension, Ronald J. Kline
Locus Of Control Modification As A Function Of Siituational Control And Performance Feedback : A Replication And Extension, Ronald J. Kline
Master's Theses
Fifty-four middle school age (sixth to eighth grade) children took part in a study designed to examine the effects of situational control and performance feedback on locus of control orientation. The subjects took part in a task situation in which they were asked to read three fictitious experiments and decide from a list of ten results which ones were actually found in the experiment and which were not. Pre and post-task measures were obtained on two locus of control scales. The Locus of Control Scale For Success - Failure (Epstein and Komorita, 1971) was answered in direct relation to the …
Evaluation Of Courses/Instructors: Book Cost Information And Commitment, Gerald L. Stremel
Evaluation Of Courses/Instructors: Book Cost Information And Commitment, Gerald L. Stremel
Master's Theses
The present study was designed to investigate the relationship between level of commitment to a college course, and information pertaining to the cost of book(s) for the course, and how such variables would interact to affect the subsequent evaluation of the course/instructor. It was expected that a state of cognitive dissonance would be present between the high commitment-higher than average cost group and the low commitment-higher than average cost group, which would manifest itself by less favorable evaluations of the course/instructor by the low commitment-higher than average group, than in the other five experimental groups. Results partially supported the prediction. …
