Growers generally use herbicides to efficiently produce high-quality fruit and vegetables for processing or fresh market sales. Due to the smaller acreage of these crops compared to major field crops, fewer herbicides are registered for use in fruit and vegetable crops than for field crops. Each year, new herbicides are evaluated under Arkansas growing conditions with the objective of improving the herbicide technology for the grower, processor, and ultimately the consumer. Brambles include raspberries and blackberries, plus many hybrids of the two. Although the term bramble indicates thorniness, both thorned and thornless bramble varieties exist. Likewise, some brambles have an erect growth habit, while others are classified as semi-erect and even others as trailing. In Tennessee, erect and semi-erect brambles are widely grown, but very few trailing brambles will be found.

Proper pruning practices in blueberries are important to maximize yields and quality throughout the life of the planting. Pruning should be done every year, beginning at the time plants are set. During the early years, the objectives of pruning are to promote both plant survival and growth. Once plants have attained full size, pruning is used to promote fruit yields and quality, as well as to maintain plants within desired size limits.

Soluble sugar composition from ethanolic extract of Elaeagnus angustifoliaL. (Russian olive) ( Elaeagnaceae) collected from six different populations in the Gümüshane-Bayburt Valley was determined by gas chromatography. In the fruits, fructose and glu-cose were determined to be the major sugars. The analysis showed the occurrence of fructose and glucose in concentrations (w/w) of 32.62-34.60% and 23.37-24.10% (minimum-maximum), respectively. Sucrose was not detected in mature fruits while fruc-tose and glucose were identified as the major sugars among these populations.
