Rc Baja Suspension And Chassis, Sean A. Gordon Jan 2022

Rc Baja Suspension And Chassis, Sean A. Gordon

All Undergraduate Projects

Students at Central Washington University were challenged with constructing a RC Baja car capable of competing against other universities from around the state as a comprehensive senior project. These projects were completed in teams of 2 separated into the suspension and chassis, as well as steering and drive train. Completion of this car requires the ability to complete several tests the measure each component of the car working in unison. Testing begins with a straight-line sprint to determine the top speed of the car; this test will be followed by a slalom test to determine steering capabilities. The final test …

Ljm Rc Baja Vehicle Project Chassis And Suspension, Paul Lervick

All Undergraduate Projects

An RC car was designed, analyzed, and manufactured to compete in the ASME RC Baja competition. The focus was to optimize the suspension and chassis components to minimize the weight while maintaining the structural strength of the components which would intern supplement the overall speed and stability of the vehicle. Other components were the responsibility of the teammate Cam Jamison. To complete this there was extensive research done on Traxxas RC cars and what went into making a high-performing vehicle that would compete well in the 3 races that comprise the competition (slalom, sprint, and obstacle course). There were then …

Creation Of A Wooden Model Toy Car As A Learning Module For Students Enrolled In Manufacturing 152, Patrick Brown

Honors Theses

This project involved the design and manufacture of a children’s wooden model toy car constructed on the CME factory floor. Apart from building a children’s toy, the purpose of this project was to introduce younger CME students to a high-quality product made efficiently in regards to manufacture time and total cost. The design for the car required the inclusion of principles from different manufacturing philosophies taught in the CME such as LEAN Manufacturing, which works to eliminate waste from a process, and Design for Manufacture and Assembly, which seeks to reduce cost and cycle time for a product. Through the …

Mini Rc Baja Car, Jason Schindler Jan 2021

Mini Rc Baja Car, Jason Schindler

All Undergraduate Projects

Incorporating each aspect of engineering incorporated into a senior project is difficult. That is why an RC Baja car is a great senior project for Mechanical Engineering students. The approach that students must take to design, construct, and test the car is to set parameters, and to make overall goals that can be easily measured. These goals include, but not limited to things like a $700 budget and the ability to withstand a 1-foot drop to a flat surface on all four wheels simultaneously. First, the design must meet the specifications and rules that are set previously. This ensures that …

Asme Rc Baja Car Drivetrain, Gizan G. Gando

All Undergraduate Projects

The purpose of the RC Baja Car is to compete in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) competition, a series of events to prove the functionality of the vehicle. This series of events includes the Slalom, Drag, and Baja race. The Slalom is a test in the steering capability of the car. The Drag is a test in the acceleration of the car in a straight line. Lastly, the Baja puts all factors together in a race to test every component of the car. This project is about building an RC car that can function under these conditions and …

Vehicle Wheelchair Storage Final Design Report, Alexander Nicholas Cherry, Alex Morcate, Chloe Ng, Tyler Habu Jun 2020

Vehicle Wheelchair Storage Final Design Report, Alexander Nicholas Cherry, Alex Morcate, Chloe Ng, Tyler Habu

Mechanical Engineering

Many people who use wheelchairs are very active. They have errands to run and lives to live just like everybody else. For a busy person who uses a wheelchair there are currently no quick methods for storing and unloading your wheelchair from your vehicle that do not require expensive custom modifications which can ruin the resell value and the aesthetics of the vehicle. This has resulted in users hastily loading their wheelchairs which can cause damage to the wheelchair, the vehicle, and other passengers while the vehicle is in motion. The goal of this project was to develop a wheelchair …

2-Axis Electric Off-Road Bucket Seat Bases, Brennan K. Slater, Alexander P. Croteau, Spencer M. Kubik

Mechanical Engineering

Off-road vehicle bucket seats are currently restricted to a single position relative to the floor of the vehicle. Drivers and riders desire the ability to adjust their seat position to increase comfort and allow for a greater size range of riders to fit safely within the cabin or roll cage. To develop a viable solution, the team has gone through an extensive design process and has constructed a functioning prototype. This Final Design Report encapsulates the entire design process and concludes with recommendations for changes we would make looking both back in review as well as moving forward with further …

Metric Coil Car, Abigail Eberly Jan 2019

Metric Coil Car, Abigail Eberly

Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects

Coil cars are a vital part of many steel mills. They allow mills to easily transfer a coil from one location to another without the use of a crane, manual labor, or other extraneous forces. Steel Equipment Specialists, or SES, gets multiple orders every year for coil cars. While the general functions and goals of the cars remains consistent, the details, such as the size of the car, the distance between rails, and the weight/ size of the coils differs between each place. Due to this variety, SES has requested a coil car that can easily be manipulated and produced …

Design And Fabrication Of Rear Suspension And Drivetrain For Union College's Sae Baja Car, Nicholas W. Oren

Honors Theses

My senior project is to design and fabricate the rear suspension and drivetrain for Union College’s SAE Baja car. This project started with the determination of the optimum style of suspension and drivetrain for use on the vehicle. I worked with a company to obtain a custom-built transmission, and I successfully designed the drivetrain to use this transmission. I also designed the frame of the Baja car required to mount these elements. Finally, I designed the rear suspension of the car. The drivetrain design incorporates a 5-speed sequential transmission with a reverse. This transmission is driven by a centrifugal clutch …
