Mechanical Properties Of Intermetallic Compounds In Electrodeposited Multilayered Thin Film At Small Scale By Nanoindentation May 2015

Mechanical Properties Of Intermetallic Compounds In Electrodeposited Multilayered Thin Film At Small Scale By Nanoindentation

Faculty of Engineering University of Malaya

Mechanical properties of intermetallic compounds (IMCs) which were formed in electrodeposited Cu/Sn and Cu/Ni/Sn multilayered thin film have been investigated. The layers of Cu, Sn and Ni were formed by electrodeposition technique using copper pyrophosphate, tin methanesulfonic and nickel Watts baths, respectively. After synthesis, samples were subjected to high temperature aging at 150 degrees C for 168 h. Two different types of intermetallics Cu3Sn and Cu6Sn5 were formed in Cu/Sn. After adding ultra-thin layer of Ni (70 nm) in between Cu and Sn layers, (Cu, Ni)(6)Sn-5 was formed after aging at similar condition to that of Cu/Sn. Tin whisker growth …

Development Of Optimum Process Parameters And A Study Of The Effects Of Surface Roughness On Brazing Of Copper Mar 2015

Development Of Optimum Process Parameters And A Study Of The Effects Of Surface Roughness On Brazing Of Copper

Faculty of Engineering University of Malaya

Brazing experiments on commercially-pure copper plates, using brazing filler metal (MBF-2005), are conducted at temperatures in the range of 650-750 degrees C for time-durations in the range of 5-15 min. Shear tests for braze-joints involved use of a universal testing machine. Based on the shear-test results, a new brazing cycle has been developed that corresponds to the greatest shear strength of the braze-joint. The brazing cycle has been performed under a controlled dry-argon atmosphere in a tube furnace. Microscopic observations were made by use of both optical and electron microscopes; whereas surface roughness measurements were made by using a TRIO …

Fabrication And Characterization Of Poly(Octanediol Citrate)/Gallium-Containing Bioglass Microcomposite Scaffolds Mar 2015

Fabrication And Characterization Of Poly(Octanediol Citrate)/Gallium-Containing Bioglass Microcomposite Scaffolds

Faculty of Engineering University of Malaya

Bone can be affected by osteosarcomae requiring surgical excision of the tumor as part of the treatment regime. Complete removal of cancerous cells is difficult and conventionally requires the removal of a margin of safety around the tumor to offer improved patient prognosis. This work considers a novel series of composite scaffolds based on poly(octanediol citrate) (POC) impregnated with gallium-based bioglass microparticles for possible incorporation into bone following tumor removal. The objective of this research was to fabricate and characterize these scaffolds and subsequently report on their mechanical and biological properties. The porous microcomposite scaffolds with various concentrations of bioglass …

Fuzzy Logic-Based Approach To Investigate The Novel Uses Of Nano Suspended Lubrication In Precise Machining Of Aerospace Al Tempered Grade 6061 Feb 2015

Fuzzy Logic-Based Approach To Investigate The Novel Uses Of Nano Suspended Lubrication In Precise Machining Of Aerospace Al Tempered Grade 6061

Faculty of Engineering University of Malaya

Temper-grade aluminum alloy Al-6061-T6 is commonly used for many engineering purposes owing to its superior mechanical properties. Due to the practical importance, machining Al-6061-T6 alloy is crucial for different applications. The development of computer numerical control (CNC) of milling machines is in progress by researchers worldwide for its noteworthy advantages. The quality of machining determines the product's appearance, function and reliability. Appropriate lubrication at the machining zone improves the tribological characteristic of Al-6061-T6 alloy, leading to higher product quality. For reasons of ambiguity during machining, the soft computing technique is chosen to predict the output. In this particular research scope, …
