All Master's Theses

A Comparative Study Of Maintenance And Operation Receipts Of The High School Districts Of Grant County Under The “Washington Foundation Plan” And The Pre-1965 State School Support Formula, Henry J. Milhofer
All Master's Theses
It is the purpose of this study to investigate the merits of the "Washington Foundation Plan" as opposed to the supplanted state apportionment formula of 1965. Procedures of the foundation approach to state support will be applied to operating school districts to compare funds available under that system with those available under the previous method. This study intends to apply the plan to the high school districts of an entire county so that the financial impact of the newly-adopted approach upon small as well as large districts will be thoroughly understood.

The crises through which the world has passed and the demands for reconstruction to repair the losses caused by World War II, as well as the challenge to democracy, have intensified the recognition of the important part to be played in education. The insights, the skills, and the knowledge that might have enabled citizens to live successfully at the beginning of this century appear to be too inadequate today. Our world has become a complex technological maelstrom of rapid mobility, constant change, and interdependence in which the citizen must acquire certain critical abilities in order to survive. In the past …

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
From Chapter 1:
The definition of giftedness solely in terms of high IQ has never seemed satisfactory, but in spite of the apparent inadequacy of the IQ metric, the practice during this century has been to regard the intelligence score as representative summary of the full range of primary mental abilities and cognitive
processes that an individual is capable of exhibiting. This practice has been challenged sporadically ever since the inception of mental abilities tests, most often on the grounds that this concept of excellence binds us to a single form of cognitive giftedness, the high IQ
Such a restricted …

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
Conscientious and devoted teachers have for years been aware of the problem that grouping poses in classroom organization. For years they have known that in order to reach every pupil in their classroom something must be done. Teachers have constantly sought for proficiency of technique and methodology that would enable them to provide more adequately for the needs of school children. They have attended institutions of higher learning where they might obtain the knowledge of the latest explorations in the field. The recommended methodology has changed from one technique to another. Wilhelms and Gibson (1961, pp. 410-411) remind us that …

I. THE PROBLEM
Statement of the problem. The purpose of this study was to determine the efficiency of the use of analogy in teaching selected concepts at the sixth-grade level. Fifteen concepts were selected from grade level teaching material, and each was paired with a concept already familiar to the students. The method of teaching the new concept by analogy with the known concept was so structured that specific principles of thinking and learning processes formed the basic framework. The following principles were included: (a) relation of an unfamiliar experience to one already within the cognitive structure, (b) analysis and …

A Character Study Of Teachers As They Appear In American Fiction In 1900, Carol E. Alalouf
A Character Study Of Teachers As They Appear In American Fiction In 1900, Carol E. Alalouf
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
The advent of the twentieth century brought with it an increased concern about education, curricula, teachers, and the approaches used in the classroom by teachers. A history of American education could be written in terms of "movements" and "emphases." During the course of each movement, its advocates were likely to become over-enthusiastic about some teaching device, method, or technique. Somehow, the impression would be created that they found the answers to all significant educational problems. In recent years, many people have felt that the teacher and his abilities are not enough to impart knowledge to the students. Teaching devices, visual …

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
All students, regardless of their intellectual endowment, need to be led to achieve as highly as they are able. As Allport (1955) pointed out, there are upper limits to possibilities of growth, but these limits are movable by breadth of education. Stretching toward the limit and then raising the limit are necessary activities at every level of potential and accomplishment. The individual learner does most of the work involved, but teachers and parents assist. Is there a set of behaviors or traits unique to those children who rise above their supposed limits in school achievement, a pattern of growth into …

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The general problem of this study was to investigate and analyze selected social, political, and economic factors in Ethiopia that affect the continuation and development of education by the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The specific purpose of this research was to develop from this analysis of Ethiopia those alternatives and recommendations which would aid Seventh-Day Adventist leaders in the development of plans for educational work in that country.
The basic question was: Can the Seventh-Day Adventists system of education plan for the social, political, and economic changes taking place in Ethiopia?
