Homeowners In East New York: Hanging On To Community And Property After Rezoning, Angely Mercado
Capstones
East New York was the first neighborhood to be approved for rezoning as part of Mayor Bill de Blasio's controversial affordable housing plan. There has been a lot of reporting on how it's going to affect tenants in the low income area. This capstone highlights how it is also affecting small property owners in the area and how the city needs to work on protecting them from being displaced as well.

Predictive Modeling With The Soil And Water Assessment Tool (Swat2012) Prior To Design Development In Landscape Architecture: Learning From The Southwestern Medical District In Dallas, Texas, Layal Bitar Ghanem
Landscape Architecture Masters & Design Theses
Landscape Architecture has recently seen a significant rise in evaluative studies among the scientific and professional community, perhaps as a result of growing concerns related to rapid urbanization, climate change, and environmental degradation (LAF, 2016; Ozdil, 2014). Several methods adopted in evaluative landscape architecture research have typically focused on landscape performance in post implementation conditions, with a relatively superficial use of technology to address contemporary urban problems. However, with the advancement of computer technologies, opportunities to assess and predict environmental landscape performance prior to design development in the site planning process have emerged. The purpose of this research is to …

Reducing Annual Emergency Department Visits Through Improved Asthma Discharge Teaching, Alvin R. Walters
Reducing Annual Emergency Department Visits Through Improved Asthma Discharge Teaching, Alvin R. Walters
Master's Projects and Capstones
Asthma is the most common pediatric condition in the United States, and a child's home environment plays an impactful role in the triggering of asthma exacerbations (Harper et al., 2015). Current emergency department (ED) ideology focuses on symptoms management, with little time spent on education, and virtually no attention paid to the home environment. Evidence shows that programs which incorporate home environmental assessments into asthma patient education produce a reduction in annual ED visits, fewer missed school days, decreased use of rescue medications, and improvements in quality of life (Gruber K.J., et al, 2016, Hollenbach J.P. & Cloutier M.M., 2015, …
The Impact Of Projected Climate Change On Bioswales In North Texas, Joann Paris Leavell
The Impact Of Projected Climate Change On Bioswales In North Texas, Joann Paris Leavell
Landscape Architecture Masters & Design Theses
This research addresses how bioswales are affected by the projections for climate change in the North Texas region. Bioswales are a type of green infrastructure that conveys stormwater before directing it to a storm sewer system or other flood control structure (McLaughlin, 2016). They minimize the volume of stormwater runoff from the ground level and allow for the infiltration and remediation of pollutants while reducing the amount of water that is directed towards storm sewers. The research seeks to provide an understanding of how the efficacy of bioswales is related to the projected climatic conditions in North Texas and their …

Role Of Mobile Technologies In Diabetes Self Management: Technology Affordance Persepctive, Ramakrishna Dantu
Role Of Mobile Technologies In Diabetes Self Management: Technology Affordance Persepctive, Ramakrishna Dantu
Information Systems & Operations Management Dissertations
Diabetes is costly and a leading cause of death and disability in the United States (CDC, 2015). There is no known cure for the disease, however, it can be managed and controlled through self-management. This process involves patients managing a complex set of distinct but related tasks including, but not limited to, monitoring health conditions, tracking medication dosages, food intake, physical activities, complying with treatment regimens, and solving problems that may arise due to illness (Clark et al., 1991; Hill-Briggs, 2003). In recent years, mobile apps and devices (henceforth labeled mobile technologies) have emerged as a promising means to help …

Mobile Way Or The Highway! The Role Of Deployment And Design In Problem Solving Using Information Dashboards, Ganapathiraman Raghu Raman
Information Systems & Operations Management Dissertations
Information dashboards are becoming very popular in the areas of decision making and problem solving. Decision makers use heuristics when facing challenging environmental situations. These could result in systematic errors called biases. How do mobile information dashboards impact these biases? We propose that decision makers are more prone to biases associated with certain heuristics when using information dashboards deployed on mobile devices. Data visualizations on dashboards could be distorted. We also propose that employment of heuristics could increase the negative effect of distortions. There is a distinct bias in favor of deploying these dashboards on mobile versus static desktops. Is …
Effects Of Diagrammatic Representation On Software Evolution Programming Performance—An Experimental Investigation Of Uml Diagrams, Lulu Zhang
Information Systems & Operations Management Dissertations
The fundamental question of the present study is to investigate whether fit between representation and task type matters while developing software. The UML (Unified Modeling Language) includes diagrams that allow developers to represent software artifacts at different levels of abstraction. These diagrams facilitate design, specification, and testing during the software development life circle. However, they are expensive and difficult artifacts to maintain because of the l time pressure that developers in the software industry typically experience. The present study hypothesizes that the selective usage of diagrammatic representations would justify the cost of maintaining these representations. Student subjects participated in controlled …
The Influence Of Social Capital On Project Success Outcomes And The Moderating Role Of Project Complexity, Olajumoke A. Awe
The Influence Of Social Capital On Project Success Outcomes And The Moderating Role Of Project Complexity, Olajumoke A. Awe
Business Administration Dissertations
Social capital has been found to benefit projects and project teams in organizations. However, the research literature is unclear about the extent to which these benefits may be negatively impacted by project complexity. Based on an extensive review of the extant literature and an exploratory case study, testable hypotheses were generated. Using the survey methodology with 302 project managers as respondents, support was found for the hypothesis that knowledge management effectiveness mediates the relationship between bonding capital and project performance as well as between bridging capital and performance. In contrast, our results suggest that creativity does not mediate these relationships. …

An Essay On Salesforce Agility: Is The Concept Worthy Of Study?, Shahriar Gias
Marketing Dissertations
Sales force agility has been identified as an important issue for contemporary professional selling and sales management (Jones et al. 2005). However, up until now, marketing scholars have sparingly paid attention to the concept of sales agility. Marketers as well as salespeople are not quite informed about the term “salesperson agility” even though they sense the need for agility in order to deal with the changing business environment and customer requirements. Therefore, this dissertation explores sales agility in detail. First, in this dissertation, an extensive literature review is conducted to conceptually ascertain how agility might be different than adaptive selling, …
Analyst Coverage And Stock Price Crash Risk, I-Fang Lee Yvonne
Analyst Coverage And Stock Price Crash Risk, I-Fang Lee Yvonne
Accounting Dissertations
In this study, I investigate the impact of analyst coverage changes on firms’ subsequent firm-specific crash risk. Using a sample of 24,228 firm-year observations from 2000 to 2013, I show that changes in analyst coverage are negatively associated with changes in one-year-ahead crash risk. This result is consistent with analysts’ information gathering activities and analyses limiting bad news hoarding behavior, and is generally inconsistent with analyst pressure leading to more bad news hoarding by managers. Moreover, I find the negative association between coverage changes and changes in subsequent crash risk to be more pronounced when the coverage change is attributable …
Capital Market Reactions To Ifrs In The United States: Evidence From Foreign Private Issuers, Jennifer Yardley
Capital Market Reactions To Ifrs In The United States: Evidence From Foreign Private Issuers, Jennifer Yardley
Accounting Dissertations
The rise of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as a contender to be the single globally-accepted set of accounting standards has been accompanied by a wealth of research studying the consequences of IFRS adoption. However, prior research does little to address the potential effects of and market sentiment toward the use of IFRS rather than U.S. GAAP in the United States. This study fills this gap by examining the accounting standard choices of foreign private issuers in the United States. In addition to identifying the factors that are associated with a firm's accounting standard choice in the U.S., this study …
Exploring Engagement With Social Media Content, Holly Atwood Syrdal
Exploring Engagement With Social Media Content, Holly Atwood Syrdal
Marketing Dissertations
Engagement in the realm of social media is thought to be related to a number of positive brand and organizational outcomes and has emerged as a hot topic among marketing academics and practitioners alike. However, there is currently no consensus on exactly what constitutes this type of engagement. This lack of agreement and, hence, lack of a “social media engagement” measure, have made it difficult for academics to advance theory in this area and for researchers to test hypotheses concerning positive brand and organizational outcomes that may be related to this form of engagement. This dissertation directly addresses this gap …

Horizontal Formwork Design Optimization & Selection System Using Genetic Algorithms, Ramy Mohamed Ghowiba
Horizontal Formwork Design Optimization & Selection System Using Genetic Algorithms, Ramy Mohamed Ghowiba
Theses and Dissertations
Concrete works in most of the construction projects can be broken down into three main items; Formwork, Steel work, and concreting, No doubt, concrete works account for a large portion of construction projects budgets. As stated by Awad S. Hanna (1999), formwork material and labor can account for 40 to 60 percent of the cost of concrete works; however this percentage can vary slightly from country to another. That is why it is important to select an appropriate formwork system for a project; otherwise the project cost will be affected negatively. Formwork systems can be classified by their function into …

Investigation Of Supply Chain Governance Mechanisms And Assessing Their Effect On Supply Chain Performance In The Manufacturing Industry, Nisha Paul Kulangara
Investigation Of Supply Chain Governance Mechanisms And Assessing Their Effect On Supply Chain Performance In The Manufacturing Industry, Nisha Paul Kulangara
Information Systems & Operations Management Dissertations
With the increasing level of globalization in manufacturing, it is becoming increasingly pertinent to monitor the execution of contractual agreements between buyers and suppliers. These monitoring mechanisms are essential to mitigate risks associated with measurement difficulty, behavioral uncertainty, and environmental uncertainty. Drawing from transaction cost theory and resource dependence theory, this study illustrates frequently applied formal and relational governance mechanisms to ensure a successful supply chain partnership and its effects on various performance measures such as supply chain and innovation performance. Most firms go through three stages of a relationship, namely-contact, contract, and control (Greenberg, Greenberg, and Antonucci, 2012). Once …
