School of Architecture Student Projects
Design work from the 1983 fall semester, Studio Martin Price, School of Architecture, The University of Texas at Arlington. Student Centre. Jay Hoffman and Darrel Fields. The challenge for the project was to site a student centre at the heart of the UTA campus without impeding upon one of its few green open spaces. This is achieved by creating a profile that folds the land into the sky to a height that responds to the adjacent buildings. Two grass-covered hills replace a flat landscape to form a groundscraper which contains the programmatic functions. Crossing paths tunnel through the higher elements …

Gamma-Gamma Angular Correlation Studies For 142ce, A. Wolf, C. Chung, W. B. Walters, R. L. Gill, M. Shmid, R. E. Chrien, Graham F. Peaslee
Gamma-Gamma Angular Correlation Studies For 142ce, A. Wolf, C. Chung, W. B. Walters, R. L. Gill, M. Shmid, R. E. Chrien, Graham F. Peaslee

Gamma-gamma angular correlations for several cascades in 142Ce were measured using a four-detector system. In a recent publication the level at 1219 keV was assigned 22+ in contradiction to a previous assignment of 41+. This makes 142Ce completely different from any known nucleus in the same region. It is shown, however, that this level is, in fact, completely consistent with 4+ and is in agreement with systematics.
The Interrelationship Between Human Resource Management And Corporate Strategy, Russell Abratt
The Interrelationship Between Human Resource Management And Corporate Strategy, Russell Abratt
HCBE Faculty Articles
The involvement of personnel executives in the strategic planning of the enterprise is a controversial issue. Personnel has been considered a staff function which deals with day-to-day administration issues and as such has often been regarded with some contempt by the top management team. Concomitantly many firms are viewing the personnel function in an entirely different light; It now participates in the decision making of the company. The objectives of this paper are two fold: firstly to find a link between corporate strategy and human resource management and secondly, to find out whether personnel managers of quoted South African companies …
Surname Analysis As A Sampling Method For Recovery Of Genetic Information, Joan C. Stevenson, R. J. Brown, Moses S. Schanfield
Surname Analysis As A Sampling Method For Recovery Of Genetic Information, Joan C. Stevenson, R. J. Brown, Moses S. Schanfield
Anthropology Faculty and Staff Publications
An effective means of retrieving ethnic information on a population sample for which there is already medical information may be surname analysis, but this has never been tested. Thus, two methods of surname classification were used to select individuals with German, Italian, Irish and Polish surnames from a sample of 2306 Milwaukee immigrants and offspring of immigrants. This sample represented only those individuals who identified all grandparents as coming from the same European geopolitical unit, and all had been previously tested for Glm(f, z, a and x), G3m(b0, bl, b3, b4 and g), A2m(l and 2), and Km(l). Selected sera …

The g-factors of the 21+ states in 144, 146Ba have been measured using the perturbed angular correlation method. The results are combined with existing experimental data for the neutron-rich Nd, Sm and Gd isotopes and discussed in the framework of the neutron proton interacting boson model. It is shown that the assumption of a drastic change in the effective proton boson number around N = 88, proposed in an earlier study, allows all the results to be explained in a simple framework involving constant values of the boson g-factors.

A multiple detector system for γ - γ coincidence and angular correlation measurements is described. The system consists of four large coaxial Ge detectors set at fixed positions, enabling the measurement of γ - γ coincidences between any pair. Thus, six distinct angles are measured simultaneously. The performance of the system was studied with a 152Eu source. An application for γ - γ correlation studies in 146Ce is described. Systematic errors, if present, are shown to be less than 0.03 and 0.05 for A2 and A4, respectively. The extension of this system to more than four detectors is straightforward.
The Job Description And The Marketing Manager - An Aid Or A Hindrance, Russell Abratt
The Job Description And The Marketing Manager - An Aid Or A Hindrance, Russell Abratt
HCBE Faculty Articles
This paper explores the feasibility of applying a standard job description to the chief of the marketing department of the firm. This implies that the traditional job description theory may not be adequate for describing the job of the marketing manager or conversely, that marketing theory is not applied to job description. This paper discusses some aspects of job descriptions, the task of the marketing manager and then looks at the five actual job descriptions of marketing managers in five major companies in different industries. Conclusions are drawn from these findings.

Industry Self-Regulation: An Economic, Organizational, And Political Analysis, Lawrence J. Lad, Anil K. Gupta
Industry Self-Regulation: An Economic, Organizational, And Political Analysis, Lawrence J. Lad, Anil K. Gupta
Scholarship and Professional Work - Business
Researchers generally have viewed nonmarket regulation of firm behavior as synonymous with direct regulation by the government. This paper highlights industry self-regulation as an alternative form of nonmarket regulation that, depending on the context, may supplement or complement direct regulation by the government. Further, on the basis of exploratory economic, organizational, and political analysis, it advances, for possible future research, propositions relating to the existence, operation, and out-come of industry self-regulation.

Successional Trends In An Ungrazed, Arid Grassland Over A Decade, Edgar F. Kleiner
Successional Trends In An Ungrazed, Arid Grassland Over A Decade, Edgar F. Kleiner
Canyonlands Research Bibliography
A study has been made of the vegetational condition of a formerly grazed area, Chesler Park, in Canyonlands National Park. A comparison was made with the same area 10 years earlier. The 10-year successional changes are also compared to baseline data of 10 years earlier from Virginia Park, an adjacent ungrazed area. Because of inaccessibility and long isolation from disturbances, Virginia Park is presumed to be in climax condition and is the control for this study. Chesler Park shows a successional trend after 10 years toward the vegetational condition of Virginia Park. This is exemplified, with only one major exception …
How Nature Forms, Martin Price
How Nature Forms, Martin Price
School of Architecture Faculty Publications
The architecture of Martin Price is not based on the ideal solids of Euclidean geometry or the canons of classical architecture, but rather on seeking inspiration in nature's own structural principles.
