Development Of Protocol For 100-Year Service Life Of Synthetic Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Pipes, Maziar Mahdavi Aug 2019

Development Of Protocol For 100-Year Service Life Of Synthetic Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Pipes, Maziar Mahdavi

Civil Engineering Dissertations

Among different components of US highways and roads, concrete pipes are one of the most important parts of these infrastructures. Currently, most of the concrete pipes that are produced in the United States are made from steel reinforced concrete composite, and this system is prone to deterioration and steel corrosion during the service life of these pipelines. In this study, a newly developed composite at the Center for Structural Engineering Research/Simulation and Pipeline Inspection was studied for service life assessment with accelerated aging methods. This composite doesn’t contain any steel reinforcement, and it is reinforced by Polypropylene fibers. At the …

Shear Behavior Of Synthetic Fiber Reinforced Concrete Box Culverts, Mahnaz Mostafazadeh Dec 2017

Shear Behavior Of Synthetic Fiber Reinforced Concrete Box Culverts, Mahnaz Mostafazadeh

Civil Engineering Dissertations

This research pursues a comprehensive experimental study on the shear capacity of zero-slump, dry-cast Synthetic Fiber-Reinforced Concrete (SYN-FRC) with the aim of reducing or even eliminating stirrups in box culverts. Since using stirrups in structures such as box culverts need labor work and cause reinforcement congestion, eliminating or reducing stirrups in design, prevent poor-quality concrete, help better concrete compaction and could save manufacturer time and money over the years. This study first determined the shear capacity of synthetic fiber concrete matrix by varying fiber volume fraction. Then, FEA and full experimental tests have been conducted to evaluate the effect of …

Long-Term Shear Investigation Of Polypropylene Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Beams, Michael Daniels May 2017

Long-Term Shear Investigation Of Polypropylene Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Beams, Michael Daniels

Civil Engineering Dissertations

This study investigates the long-term influence of polypropylene fibers on the shear strength and failure behavior of longitudinally reinforced concrete beams, with or without stirrups, subjected to accelerated aging conditions. For this study, 32 large scale short beams with different volume fractions of polypropylene fibers were casted and tested in the Civil Engineering Laboratory Building (CELB) at the University of Texas at Arlington: (1) Control reinforced concrete beams (RC); (2) Reinforced concrete beams with minimum stirrups (RCS) according to ACI 318; (3) Synthetic fiber-reinforced concrete beams with Vf=0.5% (SNFRC 0.5%), which correspond to 7.67 lbs./yd3 (4.55 kg/m3)’; and (4) Synthetic …
