Modeling Capacity: Multiple Weaving Areas, Sheida Khademi

Civil Engineering Dissertations

Systematic, well-designed research provides the most effective approach to the solution of many problems facing highway administrators and engineers. Traffic congestion on freeway systems is one significant concern in urban areas throughout the U.S.A. In this era, building new freeways to reduce congestion is less feasible due to the high capital and social costs. Thus, the effective management and operation of existing freeway facilities has become a preferred approach to reduce traffic congestion. A weaving section is a common design on major highway facilities that always has been an interest to researchers. Weaving areas are characterized by frequent lane changes, …

Assessing The Impacts Of Road Capacity Improvements On Project Communities: A Case Study Of The National Highway 1 (N1-Highway) Accra, Ghana, Frank Adarkwa

Public Affairs Dissertations

The evaluation of road transportation projects has always been undertaken based on engineering and economic criteria. Road transportation projects are selected based on their significant impacts on key performance measures such as safety and travel time. In recent years, emphasis has been placed on the social and economic impacts of road transportation projects and how they affect members of society rather than the users of roads (Transportation Research Board, 2011). The provision of appropriate and effective road facilities is of the utmost importance in order to achieve well-functioning roads in terms of safety, capacity, user comfort, and minimized environmental impacts. …

The Capacity Of Postpartum Depression Resources In Underserved Communities, Brandie Green

Public Affairs Dissertations

The primary purpose of this study was to assess the resources that are available to women in underserved communities to detect and treat postpartum depression. Postpartum depression continues to be a major public health issue. Although there are screening methods and treatments that are available to address this mental illness, the rates of detection are still low leading to a number of women that suffer from postpartum depression and go untreated. Two populations that have proven to be at a higher risk of postpartum depression are those from underserved communities and minority populations. This research takes a deeper look into …
