Unremitting Resilience: How Gender Shaped The Lives Of Women During The Holocaust, Savannah L. Savage-Johnson

Memoirs and oral histories of the Holocaust reveal that Jewish women in Germany experienced a significant change in gender roles and expectations following the passage of the Nuremberg Laws in 1935. These women adapted as a means of survival. As Nazi occupation spread, similar observations can be made in Jewish communities across Europe. In ghettos and work camps, many women formed bonds with one another, despite coming from different backgrounds. This thesis investigates the Holocaust as a gendered experience by examining the specific ways that women were affected and forced to adapt. In each woman’s story there was one common …

Tchaikovsky’s ballet Sleeping Beauty was first produced in the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg on January 15, 1890. Since the ballet’s debut, the design and construction of the leading tutus have evolved and spread considerably. In most modern renditions of this particular ballet, the silhouette of the tutu includes a skirt made of net tulle that sticks straight out from either the hip or the waist, depending on the exact style. This silhouette that is so integral to a majority of modern ballets did not appear until the 1870s, just twenty short years before Sleeping Beauty’s debut. This project will …

Aquaponics is a closed-loop, sustainable method of food production that combines fish and plant production. This method of agriculture has the potential to bring fresh, local food to food-insecure areas, but challenges remain due to high operating costs. In order to develop a strong aquaponics industry, the creation of the most efficient system designs will be critical in optimizing production. This research project uses content analysis to examine themes related to toxic masculinity and misogyny in the sitcom Hannah Montana. In particular, the sitcom’s child character Rico Suave is shown to be misogynistic when interacting with women. There is little literature on the topic of representation of toxic masculinity as shown in child characters, but there are many examples in modern media, such as the trope of the child being attracted to the babysitter, the lifeguard, and the friend of an older sibling. This project explored how The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the New York Post covered the Me Too movement by studying the frames and framing techniques embedded in the newspapers’ articles. As one of the initial studies to analyze how American newspapers covered the movement, this study investigated how such content might be formative to subsequent narratives published about the Me Too movement. The articles were analyzed using a codebook adapted from Kowalewski (2006). The Savannah Divide is a documentary that defines what community policing is by following a highly proactive community policing unit in Savannah, Georgia called the Expanded Patrol Operation (EXPO). The film follows Kevin Grogan who discusses the unit’s past, how it ended and what he has done since his cop career ended. This paper discusses the development and production that went into the creation of the film as well as any ethical concerns the filmmaker had to deal with when creating the film.

The study that was conducted focused on the similarities and differences in the way the teachers of gifted students, the teachers of students with special needs, and the teachers who teach on-level students, motivate their students. The teachers that were interviewed will teach students from one or more of the different ability levels, in order to achieve a range of data. The gap that this research filled is the more specific and detailed ways that teachers believe can be used to motivate students and what methods work across multiple ability levels. This is a critical inquiry into the stories of three generations of women living in the South. Through the stories my mother, my daughter and I have lived through, I critically reflect on my experience of being a first generation doctoral student growing up in-between the color lines of Black and White and raising a biracial and gay daughter growing up in the deep South. The researcher's purpose of this study was to understand perceptions of co-teaching by special education and general education teachers, and how those perceptions make the implementation of co-teaching for students with disabilities in the general education classroom successful. The study examined teacher perceptions on training for co-teaching, recommended practices for co-teaching, and supports needed for the co-teaching team. The researcher administered a Likert-scale survey, Perceptions of Co-Teaching Survey developed by Vance Austin (2001) to 45 special education and 98 general education teachers with co-teaching experience from three school districts in southeast Georgia. The quantitative research project examined the Georgia superintendents' assessment of their use of the six crucial C's in their job performance. The research method used for the study was a qualitative analysis of data collected from eight interviews of Georgia superintendents under contract during the 2005-2006 school year.
