Flor De Granado Y Granado Nov 2017

Flor De Granado Y Granado

Juan Javier del Granado

This is a collection of works by a distinguished Latin American literary family. Presented here, in a single volume, is a wealth of styles, subjects, and forms united, perhaps, solely by the uncommonly high quality of the writing itself. The anthology includes uncollected pieces and English translations by Bruce Phenix.

Enhancing Science And Mathematics Teacher Education: Evaluating An Enhancement Module For Science Pre-Service Teachers, Geoff Woolcott, Robert Whannell, Linda Pfeiffer, Tony Yeigh, James Donnelly, Amanda Scott Aug 2017

Enhancing Science And Mathematics Teacher Education: Evaluating An Enhancement Module For Science Pre-Service Teachers, Geoff Woolcott, Robert Whannell, Linda Pfeiffer, Tony Yeigh, James Donnelly, Amanda Scott

Dr Geoff Woolcott

Motivated and well-trained science and mathematics teachers are a requirement for sustaining an industrialised economy. The Australian government has funded several projects to satisfy this requirement designed to improve pre-service teacher (PST) education in regional and rural Australia. One such project uses a collaboration nexus model with lesson feedback and Reflection Module in an iterative process using a repeated sequence comprised of an Enhancement Module, a subsequent Teaching Lesson and a Reflection Module. This paper reports on qualitative investigations of the effectiveness of the collaboration nexus in the Enhancement Module and comments on the value of the iterative process. Results …

The Value Of Academic Libraries: Library Services As A Predictor Of Student Retention, Ashley Ireland, Adam Murray, Jana Hackathorn Jul 2017

The Value Of Academic Libraries: Library Services As A Predictor Of Student Retention, Ashley Ireland, Adam Murray, Jana Hackathorn

Jana Hackathorn

This study examined the predictive relationship between library use by individual students and their retention status in university settings. The methodology builds on a small number of previous studies to examine library use at the individual level to determine if use of specific library services is predictive of retention for freshmen and sophomores. Binary logistic regression yielded results that indicate a strong positive predictive relationship between library use of any kind with both freshmen and sophomore retention. These results suggest that academic libraries add value to institutional retention efforts.

In-House Daily Consensus Conference: An Important Quality Control/Quality Assurance Activity--Experience At A Major Referral Center., Amna Khurshid, Zubair Ahmad, Asim Qureshi

Zubair Ahmad

Background:For every practicing histopathologist, improvement of diagnostic accuracy is an important objective. Personal consults are an important component of quality control (QC)/quality assurance (QA) in our Section of Histopathology. In addition, the College of American Pathologists recommends a daily in-house consensus conference, which is a prospective system by which all difficult and problematic cases are reviewed and discussed and signed out by consensus. Design: In-house consensus conference is held daily using a multi-headed microscope. This collegial session is run by the seniormost consultant in the section and is attended by all histopathology consultants and residents. The consultants and residents …

Rank-Based Test Procedures For Interaction In The Two-Way Layout With One Observation Per Cell, Brad Hartlaub May 2017

Rank-Based Test Procedures For Interaction In The Two-Way Layout With One Observation Per Cell, Brad Hartlaub

Brad Hartlaub

ABSTRACT New aligned-rank test procedures for the composite null hypothesis of no interaction effects (without placing restrictions on the two main e#ects) against appropriate composite general alternatives are developed for the standard two-way layout with a single observation per cell. Relative power performances of the two new aligned-rank procedures and existing tests due to Tukey (1949) and de Kroon & van der Laan (1981) are examined via Monte Carlo simulation. Extensive power studies conducted on the 56and59two-way layouts with one observation per cell show superior performance of the new procedures for a variety of interaction e#ects. Simulated critical values for …

This conference papers discovers the issues that cause pre-service teachers to be stressed or disappointed with their classroom performance.

This project surveyed and reported on students responses to the worst class they had taken in their professional development and why they believed it was the worst. The details of this project are detailed in the listed conference paper.

Dielectric Function And Bowing Parameter Of Zn_{1-X}Mg_Xse And Zn_{1-X}Be_Xse Alloys, Frank Peiris, Et Al. Feb 2017

Dielectric Function And Bowing Parameter Of Zn_{1-X}Mg_Xse And Zn_{1-X}Be_Xse Alloys, Frank Peiris, Et Al.

Frank Peiris

We report pseudodielectric function data < > = < 1 > + i < 2 > of Zn1−xMg x Se and Zn1−xBexSe samples grown on GaAs substrates. Critical point parameters were obtained by fitting model lineshapes to numerically calculated second energy derivatives of < >, from which the bowing parameters and spin-orbit-splitting ∆1 of the E1 and the E1 + ∆1 gaps were obtained. We discuss the bowing parameters and spin-orbit-splitting ∆1 of the E1 and the E1 + ∆1 gaps.

Gendering Disability To Enable Disability Rights Law, Michelle Travis Dec 2016

Gendering Disability To Enable Disability Rights Law, Michelle Travis

Michelle A. Travis

This Article expands the social model of disability by analyzing the interaction between disability and gender. The modern disability rights movement is built upon the social model, which understands disability not as an inherent personal deficiency but as the product of the environment with which an impairment interacts. The social model is reflected in the accommodation mandate of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 ("ADA"), which holds employers responsible for the limiting aspects of their workplace design. This Article shows that the limitations imposed upon impairments result not only from physical aspects of a workplace but also from other …

Paper Dragon Thieves, J.S. Nelson Dec 2016

Paper Dragon Thieves, J.S. Nelson

J.S. Nelson

Developments in the law are making the corporate form more opaque and allowing the agents who animate it to escape individual accountability for their actions. The law now provides protection for agents to engage in widespread frauds that inflict massive harm on the public. This article challenges the academic orthodoxy that shareholder and director liability are enough to control agent behavior by developing a paper dragon analogy to focus on the importance of agents in corporate animation. Lack of agent accountability encourages the patterns of fraud that caused the financial crisis in which forty-five percent of the world’s wealth disappeared, …

Karchner, Diana G. Franks, Matthew J. Jenny, Alicia R. Timme-Laragy, John J. Stegeman, Bruce R. Woodin, Michael J. Cipriano, Elwood Linney

Alicia R. Timme-Laragy

Oxidative stress is an important mechanism of chemical toxicity, contributing to teratogenesis and to cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. Developing animals may be especially sensitive to chemicals causing oxidative stress. The developmental expression and inducibility of anti-oxidant defenses through activation of NF-E2-related factor 2 (NRF2) affect susceptibility to oxidants, but the embryonic response to oxidants is not well understood. To assess the response to chemically mediated oxidative stress and how it may vary during development, zebrafish embryos, eleutheroembryos, or larvae at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 days post fertilization (dpf) were exposed to DMSO (0.1%), tert-butylhydroquinone (tBHQ; 10 µM) …
