Responsive Web Design, Ashley Varon, David Karlins Dec 2020

Responsive Web Design, Ashley Varon, David Karlins

Publications and Research

Responsive web design is one of the most important topics in web. It can be one of the main reasons a website can be costing a business clients, and creating an effect on a business. The rise in popularity of mobile phones and tablets makes it crucial for a website to be designed to respond and adjust to different viewports. This project will research how important responsive web design is in 2020 and the positive or negative impacts it may have on the users, customers, and businesses. Companies must consider text size, layout, navigation, image sizes, and testing when designing …

Understanding Of Aerosol Transmission Of Covid 19 In Indoor Environments, Adama Barro, Cathal O'Toole, Jacob S. Lopez, Matthew Quinones, Sherene Moore Dec 2020

Understanding Of Aerosol Transmission Of Covid 19 In Indoor Environments, Adama Barro, Cathal O'Toole, Jacob S. Lopez, Matthew Quinones, Sherene Moore

Publications and Research

Our reason for discussing severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) or 2019 novel corona virus (Covid-19), is to understand its aerosol transmission characteristics in indoor spaces and to mitigate further spread of this disease by designing a new HVAC system. The problem that we are tackling is the spread of covid-19 droplets through aerosol transmission by looking at potential engineering solutions to the existing HVAC systems. The purpose is to eradicate the spread of the COVID-19 by testing indoor spaces in an effort to understand the effectiveness of ventilation controls. We believe that scientists and engineers have not …

Transferring A Unique Collection To The Institutional Repository, Stephen G. Krueger Dec 2020

Transferring A Unique Collection To The Institutional Repository, Stephen G. Krueger

Dartmouth Library Staff Publications

Until fall 2020, the Computer Science department at Dartmouth College maintained an online collection of technical reports on their website. Faculty and librarians have worked together to transfer the collection to the school's institutional repository, Dartmouth Digital Commons. The project involved several major components: the creation of a space in the IR that met the specific needs of the collection, the transfer of existing materials so that the previous site could be deleted without losing any content, and the development of a workflow for adding future materials. In this presentation, the librarian responsible for the project will describe the process. …

Parametric Art, Shaun Pollard, Daanial Ahmad, Satyanand Singh Dec 2020

Parametric Art, Shaun Pollard, Daanial Ahmad, Satyanand Singh

Publications and Research

Lissajous curves, named after Jules Antoine Lissajous (1822-1880) are generated by the parametric equations =() and =() in its simplistic form. Others have studied these curves and their applications like Nathaniel Bowditch in 1815, and they are often referred to as Bowditch curves as well. Lissajous curves are found in engineering, mathematics, graphic design, physics, and many other backgrounds. In this project entitled “Parametric Art” this project will focus on analyzing these types of equations and manipulating them to create art. We will be investigating these curves by answering a series of questions that elucidate their purpose. Using Maple, which …

Improve The Prototype Of Low-Cost Near-Infrared Diffuse Optical Imaging System, Chen Xu, Mohammed Z. Shakil Dec 2020

Improve The Prototype Of Low-Cost Near-Infrared Diffuse Optical Imaging System, Chen Xu, Mohammed Z. Shakil

Publications and Research

Diffuse Optical Tomography (DOT) and Optical Spectroscopy using near-infrared (NIR) diffused light has demonstrated great potential for the initial diagnosis of tumors and in the assessment of tumor vasculature response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The aims of this project are 1) to test the different types of LEDs in the near-infrared range, and design the driving circuit, and test the modulation of LEDs at different frequencies; 2) to test the APDs as a detector, and build the receiver system and compare efficiency with pre-built systems. In this project, we are focusing on creating a low-cost infrared transmission system for tumor and …

Phonetic Algorithm Performance, Aaron Schneidereit Dec 2020

Phonetic Algorithm Performance, Aaron Schneidereit

Senior Honors Projects

AARON SCHNEIDEREIT (Computer Science BS) Phonetic Algorithm Performance Sponsors: Noah Daniels (Computer Science and Statistics) Phonetic Algorithms are used for classifying words based on their pronunciation. These algorithms are used in many text-to-speech technologies and spell-checkers to ensure that a word can be correctly recognized despite minor spelling/pronunciation errors. The process of encoding a word to its phonetic surname is known as Phonetic Matching. Since 1918, there have only been a handful of phonetic algorithms that have been created. The main three algorithms that other phonetic algorithms are built from are Soundex, New York State Identification and Intelligence System (NYSIIS), …

Confident & Creative Mentoring: Finding Your Voice Supporting Ot Professionals, Katherine Toon, Terri Grundy

Occupational Therapy Faculty Scholarship

Within our profession, we possess many tools for improving our patients’ and clients’ lives, which can be translated to mentorship of other OTPs by making it an intentional aspect of our career. Building upon our role competencies allows us to explore creative ways in which we can enrich our colleagues and students. By reviewing and identifying AOTA’s five “Standards for Continuing Competency” through the lens of being a mentor, confidence can be built based on what each OTP currently possesses. Building upon these Standards which include, knowledge, critical reasoning, interpersonal skills, performance skills, and ethical reasoning, each practitioner can begin …

¿Existe Un Español Antillano?, Orlando Alba

Faculty Publications

Stewarding Relationships And Resources: A Christian Perspective On Working With Vendors, Andrea Abernathy

Faculty Publications - George Fox University Libraries

The environment in which we acquire electronic resources is drastically changed, but our mandate to meet the informational needs of our students and faculty remains. We approach vendors from a point of need, with strained budgets, additional institutional requirements for purchasing, and growing information needs. Negotiating the parameters of a renewal or a new acquisition requires content knowledge, interpersonal skills, time, strategy, and integrity. In this session, you will learn some practical strategies for obtaining both sustainable pricing, and flexible license agreements for your library through intentional stewardship of finances, and the relationship between you and the vendor. Success strategies …
