Though the existence of a genetic component of psoriasis can be easily observed, the genes predisposing patients to psoriasis and its varied morphologies remain largely unknown. Previous studies of psoriasis cases have shown disease linkage to many possible loci. The most highly significant of these has been linkage to the MHC region of chromosome 6p. But, because psoriasis is a complex multi-genic disease with a variable expression pattern, it is unlikely that any one locus is responsible for all forms of psoriasis. We propose that when psoriasis cases are stratified into phenotypic pools, variants of psoriasis can more clearly differentiated …

Research and development has always played a strategically important role in the survival and the growth of technology-based firms. R&D is positively linked to company performance measures such as sales, productivity and shareholder returns and in addition to this, facing increased competition, as a result of globalization the viability of many established firms is based on the efficiency of their R&D activities. Similar to other business models, R&D systems are characterized by complex structure and dynamic behavior. It's often difficult to predict or trace the consequences of certain decisions due to the existence of delays, non-linearities and causal feedback inherent …

The mission is to create a Universal Library which will foster creativity and free access to all human knowledge. As a first step in realizing this mission, it is proposed to create the Universal Library with a free-to-read, searchable collection of one million books, available to everyone over the Internet. Within 10 years, it is our expectation that the collection will grow to 10 Million books. The result will be a unique resource accessible to anyone in the world 24x7, without regard to nationality or socioeconomic background. One of the goals of the Universal Library is to provide support for …

Information Technology Services and the University Library partnered to build an Internet2-enabled Learning Commons (LC) at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. The project team now extends the campus partnership model to include student and faculty users in collaboratively applying Scandinavian style co-design methodologies for physical and virtual learning and teaching environments. The interactive design approach was tested from January to June 2005 with funding from a U.S. Office of Naval Research Internet2 MiniGrant subcontract award. The project evaluated the efficacy of an interactive design/redesign methodology for encouraging user-driven, boundary-crossing information exchange and knowledge creation. Involving graduate and …
