Letter to his parents, 22 July 1899, from Roland Patterson, teaching school and boarding with the Gerald family in Jennie, Barren County, Kentucky. His contemplative letter, written while sitting up with the family’s young son who is recovering from malaria, describes the family, his quiet surroundings, and opening his school.
