Technical feasibility of natural iron-rich sandy soil as a low-cost adsorbent for removal of lead from water was investigated . The soil, which had an iron content of 3,719 mg/kg, was collected from Hulu Langat, Malaysia, and was used for adsorption studies without any surface modification through chemical treatment. The effects of pH, solution: soil ratio and initial lead concentration on the adsorption efficiency were studied using response surface methodology based on Box–Behnken experimental design. Circulating fluidized bed steam reformers (CFBSR) represent an important alternative for hydrogen production, a promising energy carrier. Although the reactor hydrodynamics play crucial role, modeling efforts to date are limited to one-dimensional models thus ignoring many of the flow characteristics of fluidized-beds that have strong effects on the reactor efficiency. Recovery of cellulose fibres from paper mill effluent has been studied using common polysaccharides or biopolymers such as Guar gum, Xanthan gum and Locust bean gum as flocculent. Guar gum is commonly used in sizing paper and routinely used in paper making. The results have been compared with the performance of alum, which is a common coagulant and a key ingredient of the paper industry. Guar gum recovered about 3.86 mg/L of fibre and was most effective among the biopolymers. Approaching anode is one of the enhancement techniques in electrokinetic soil remediation. This technique is reported to give promising migration for heavy metals under shorter treatment time and at lower cost in comparison to normal fixed anode system. In the present study, the effectiveness of fixed anode and approaching anode techniques in electrokinetic soil remediation for lead migration under different types of wetting agents (0.01M NaNO3 and 0.1M citric acid) was investigated. The study explores the application of a two-stage electrokinetic washing system on remediation of lead (Pb) contaminated soil. The process involved an initial soil washing, followed by an electrokinetic process. The use of electrokinetic process in soil washing not only provided additional driving force for transporting the desorbed Pb away from the soil but also reduced the high usage of wash solution. In this study, the effect of NaNO3, HNO3, citric acid and EDTA as wash solutions on two-stage electrokinetic washing system were evaluated. The thermal processing of canned food is the most important step in the canning procedure. Retort operating procedures must ensure that uniform processing temperature is achieved and maintained throughout the locations of the canned containers during the process. In this study, temperature distribution tests have been used as a means of verifying the temperature uniformity around the containers. These studies were carried out in two Egyptian canning plants in horizontal water-immersion and water-spray retorts under fully loaded operating conditions. Time-temperature data gathered were used as a guidance tool in improving temperature distribution and in optimizing the process schedule.

Many industries use vanadium increasingly and as a consequence, the toxic effluents cause environmental concern. Here, we study the extraction of vanadium in supported ionic liquid membrane was studied. The effect of operational conditions on the process performance such as initial feed phase concentration, pH of the feed solution, pore size of the membrane support, type of ionic liquid charged on the support and stripping agent solution was investigated. Peng-Robinson Equation of State is widely used with the classical van der Waals mixing rules to predict vapor liquid equilibria for system containing hydrocarbons and related compounds. This model requires good values of the binary interaction parameter kij. In this work, we developed a semi-empirical correlation for kij partly based on the Huron-Vidal mixing rules. We obtained values for the adjustable parameters of the developed formula for over sixty binary systems and over ten categories of components. This article provides an analysis of processes for separation CO2 by using carbonic anhydrase enzyme with particular emphasis on reactive-membrane solutions. Three available processes are characterised. Main challenges and prospects are given. It is found that in view of numerous challenges practical applications of these processes will be difficult in near future. Further research is therefore needed for improving existing processes through finding methods for eliminating their main drawbacks such as short lifetime of carbonic anhydrase or low resistance of reactive membrane systems to impurities contained in flue gases from power plants.

The interaction between gasses, liquids, and solids plays a critical role in many processes, such as coating, granulation and the blast furnace process. In this paper we present a comprehensive numerical model for three phase flow including droplets, particles and gas. By means of a coupled Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) - Discrete Element Method (DEM) approach the physical core phenomena are pictured at a detailed level. Sub-models for droplet deformation, breakup and coalescence as well as droplet-particle and wet particle-particle interaction are applied. Surface temperature evolution of a body subjected to a nonlinear heat flux involving counteracting convection heating and radiation cooling has been solved by the variations iteration method (VIM) of He. The surface temperature equations comes as a combination of the time-fractional (half-time) subdiffusion model of the heat conduction and the boundary condition relating the temperature field gradient at the surface through the Riemann-Liouville fractional integral. Simple 1-D semi-infinite heat conduction problems enable to demonstrate the potential of the fractional calculus in determination of transient thermal impedances of two bodies with different initial temperatures contacting at the interface ( ) at . Phase equilibrium calculations and phase stability analysis of reactive and non-reactive systems play a significant role in the simulation, design and optimization of reaction and separation processes in chemical engineering. These challenging problems, which are often multivariable and non-convex, require global optimization methods for solving them. Stochastic global optimization algorithms have shown promise in providing reliable and efficient solutions for these thermodynamic problems. The work presents an integral solution of the time-fractional subdiffusion equation as alternative approach to those employing hypergeometric functions. The integral solution suggests a preliminary defined profile with unknown coefficients and the concept of penetration (boundary layer) well known from the heat diffusion and hydrodynamics. The profile satisfies the boundary conditions imposed at the boundary of the boundary layer that allows its coefficients to be expressed through the boundary layer depth as unique parameter describing the profile.
