Threats And Aggression Directed At Soccer Referees: An Empirical Phenomenological Psychological Study, Margareta Friman, Claes Nyberg, Torsten Norlander

The Qualitative Report

A descriptive qualitative analysis of in-depth interviews involving seven provincial Soccer Association referees was carried out in order to find out how referees experience threats and aggression directed to soccer referees. The Empirical Phenomenological Psychological method (EPP-method) was used. The analysis resulted in thirty categories which were summarized in six themes. The main themes described the perceived causes of threat, reactions to threat, how the referees manage stressful situations, and their motives to referee.

Moving Beyond The Criminal Justice Paradigm: A Radical Restorative Justice Approach To Intimate Abuse, Peggy Grauwiler, Linda G. Mills

The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare

This article traces the history of the development of the treatment of domestic violence as a crime in the United States and the conceptual and practical limitations of this approach in addressing this important social issue. An extensive body of research on restorative justice practice suggests that restorative approaches may contribute to reducing and preventing family violence. Drawing on restorative justice principles, an alternative or supplement to criminal justice approaches is outlined for working with all parties involved in abusive relationships.

For years, researchers, clinicians, and those working with victims/survivors of domestic abuse have overlooked the issue of same-sex partner aggression among lesbians and bisexual women. Through in-depth interviews with 19 women who identify themselves as either lesbian or bisexual, information was documented in this study demonstrating the severity of issues of power and control among some same-sex partners, as well as some if the dynamics that are unique to same-sex abusive relationships. Patterns of abuse within same-sex relationships often mirror those that are so commonly associated with partner aggression among heterosexual couples, and therefore demonstrate not only the need for …

A semi-structured observational study investigated gender differences in delivered and received relational, physical, verbal, and nonverbal aggression in a young preschool sample (N = 60). Findings revealed that gender differences in subtypes of aggression may be apparent as early as 3 years of age. Specifically, girls were found to deliver and receive more relational aggression than males, whereas boys tended, although not significantly, to deliver and significantly received more physical aggression than females. Relational and physical subtypes of delivered and received aggression were differentially associated with preschoolers' social-psychological adjustment.

Causal Relationships Of Adolescent Aggression: Empathy, Prosocial Behavior, Self Esteem, And Social Support [In Korean], Young Hi Ha, Carolyn P. Edwards

In this study of adolescent aggression, the subjects were 320 male and female 7th and 8th grade students in Changwon. Data were collected with questionnaires and analyzed by Pearson's correlation and multiple regression analysis. Results showed that, 1) low friend support, empathy, and prosocial behavior had direct paths to adolescent overt aggression. 2) Low teacher and friend support, empathy, and prosocial behavior had direct paths to adolescent verbal aggression. 3) Low empathy and self-esteem were indirectly related to adolescent aggression through low prosocial behavior. 4) Low teacher support was indirectly related to adolescent aggression through low empathy and self-esteem. 5) …
