This article reviews the literature of how individual differences (specifically trait conscientiousness) may contribute to ex-offender responsivity to reentry programming. By studying if individual differences (e.g. personality traits) contribute to specific responsivity, programming can be determined to be ineffective for the general population and redesigned in a manner that is beneficial for the largest number of clients. To that end, this literature review provides a conceptual foundation for potential future studies, based on what previous researchers have found in their own studies. A Criminological Interpretation Of Kip Kinkel, Ernest M. Oleksy

Kip Kinkel, responsible for the Thurston High School Shooting, made headlines for his criminality in the late '90s. Whenever a tragedy like the aforementioned one occurs, researchers and law enforcement attempt to hypothesize and theorize why a particular individual resorted to violent crime, and if such occurrences can be predicted and suppressed in the future. This article offers numerous theoretical explanations to Kinkel's behavior, analyzing his background, lifestyle, and information provided by himself and other who knew him.

To better understand the historical and sociological impact of modern development, I conducted a literature review to compare and contrast varying viewpoints on development’s legacy. The official start of the modern era of development begins with President Truman’s 1949 speech that declared global poverty a threat to all nations since it could lead to communism. WWII resulted in social problems unresolvable for any one nation: Europe was war-torn, the aftereffects of the Great Depression were significant, and multiple Asian nations grappled with humanitarian tragedies. A Needs Based Theory Of Human Injustice: Oppression, Dehumanization, Exploitation, And Sytematic Inequality In Opportunities To Address Human Needs, Michael A. Dover

This article presents an original needs-based partial theory of human injustice and shows its relationship to existing theories of human need and human liberation. The theory is based on an original typology of three social structural sources of human injustice, a partial theorization of the mechanisms of human injustice, and a needs-based theorization of the nature of human injustice, as experienced by individuals. This article makes a sociological contribution to normative social theory by clarifying the relationship of human injustice to human needs, human rights, and human liberation. Race/Ethnicity, Citizenship Status, And Crime Examined Through Trauma Experiences Among Young Adults In The United States, Chistopher A. Mallett, Miyuki F. Tedor, Linda M. Quinn

Race/ethnicity, citizenship status, and trauma, have significant impact on delinquency and crime outcomes; though the rea- sons for some expected and unexpected crime pathways are still unanswered. Using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1997 (n = 7,103), this study found the follow- ing results: no difference in the likelihood of engagement in delinquency and crime between blacks and whites; cumulative trauma increased delinquency and crime rates for all racial and ethnic groups; racial and ethnic minority groups compared to whites reported a significantly higher level of child- hood trauma experiences; and native-born female immigrant groups (but not …

Local Regulation Of Charitable Solicitation, Joseph Mead

Most discussions of the policy context for nonprofits in the United States focus on federal or state restrictions. Fundraising charities, however, must comply not only with myriad state requirements but an uncertain number of local requirements as well. Based on a survey of the largest cities in the United States, I find that all of these cities have some restrictions on charitable solicitation. Several of the cities also impose extensive registration requirements and other restrictions. These findings highlight the need for nonprofits to be aware of local regulation of their activities.
