E Pluribum Una Ecclesia: Addressing Ideologically Driven Disunity Through A Multifaceted Approach, John M. Craft Iv
E Pluribum Una Ecclesia: Addressing Ideologically Driven Disunity Through A Multifaceted Approach, John M. Craft Iv
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Pastors and church leaders within the Rocky Mountain Church Network, an association of 48 churches, face difficulty caused by ideologically driven disunity (IDD). Current polling shows IDD's negative effect on pastors, church leaders, and congregations. Due to the foundational nature of ideologies, attempts to alleviate IDD have typically worsened the situation. This action research project seeks to identify the presence and impact of IDD as well as provide a strategy and tools to address IDD in a congregation. Using surveys, focus groups, and personal interviews, the researcher acquired quantitative and qualitative data from 22 project participants that affirmed the data …
Shepherding Church Staff: Stakeholders' Perceptions Of A Useful Leadership Development Plan, Bobby Allen Thompson
Shepherding Church Staff: Stakeholders' Perceptions Of A Useful Leadership Development Plan, Bobby Allen Thompson
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
As leadership demands grow, churches need a way to develop more effective leaders. Many pastors have received limited training in how to develop leaders and may not be aware of stakeholders’ expectations for leadership development. This thesis project reveals the importance of intentional leadership development of those who have answered the calling to work in the local church. The researcher believes the current shortage of lay leaders as well as consistent burnout rates among staff and volunteers can be altered with the correct plan and people in place. The researcher conducted open ended semi-structured interviews for those currently working in …
Understanding Motivations To Attend Various Sized Churches: A Study Using Family Communication Patterns, Expectancy Violations, And Anxiety To Predict Church Attendance, Molly Bradshaw
Masters Theses, 2020-current
Two separate studies were conducted to examine whether communication variables impact religious views and church attendance. For the first study, 228 students from a large Southeastern university completed a web survey. The second study was a web survey of 204 adults that was conducted via Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTURK). Both surveys were sent out to determine one’s motivations to attend a small, medium, or large church using family communication, anxiety, expectations, and religion variables as predictors. Family communication, anxiety, and expectancy variables were positively correlated to many aspects of religious views. Hierarchical regression models utilizing demographics, family communication, anxiety, expectancy …

Data On Fossil Fuel Divestment Commitments Through March 2018, Tyler Hansen, Robert Pollin
Data and Datasets
This dataset includes information on fossil fuel divestment commitments that took place as part of the fossil fuel divestment movement through Mar. 23, 2018. The dataset includes the following variables: name of organization, type of organization, home country of organization, type of divestment commitment, date of divestment commitment, and total assets under management of the organization committing to divest. Divestment commitment data was shared with the authors by 350.org. The authors verified and made corrections to two subsets of the data: organizations with assets under management of at least $1 billion which committed to fully divesting from all fossil fuels, …
Two By Two Leadership: A Model Of Christian Leadership, Joseph Swanner
Two By Two Leadership: A Model Of Christian Leadership, Joseph Swanner
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
A growing number of scholars are accepting the suggestion that shared leadership is preferred over individual leadership. The shared leadership model is proliferating into new fields where it is being modified and improved. Biblically, there is a pattern of sending individuals two by two into leadership, as well. Christian leadership models of the future must also return to the two by two, co-leader ideal. There is room for strategizing the details of what this model will look like on a practical level. Utilizing a case study and surveys, this project examines the effects of this leadership model in a church …
What Is The Lived Experience Of Laywomen Who Serve As Catholic Elementary School Principals In Their Roles As Faith Leaders?, Jamie Faser Arthur
What Is The Lived Experience Of Laywomen Who Serve As Catholic Elementary School Principals In Their Roles As Faith Leaders?, Jamie Faser Arthur
Educational Policy Studies Dissertations
Catholic schools in the United States have experienced daunting challenges since Vatican II (1962-1965) with a 45% decrease in number attributed to decisions made by Church leaders. Traditionally led by religious, the National Catholic Education Association (2010) reported 97% of Catholic schools are now staffed by lay people. This research details the importance of Catholic schools to the evangelizing mission of the Church, defines the role of laity, and acknowledges a lack of programs that support lay Catholic principals. Past studies provide a snapshot of trends, list expected competencies, and compare their positions to public school counterparts. The literature review …
The Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church In America, P. Gøtke
The Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church In America, P. Gøtke
The Bridge
I do not propose to write here a complete history of the Danish Church as it was established in America—the full story of the Danish Church in America has yet to arrive at its conclusion. Instead, I offer here a brief overview of the work of the church among the immigrants to the United States, drawing the attention of the readers of this book to particular points.
Exploring The Lived Experiences Of Online Worshipers, Matthew B. Broaddus
Exploring The Lived Experiences Of Online Worshipers, Matthew B. Broaddus
Annual Research Symposium of the College of Communication and Information
This ongoing qualitative study uses long interviews to seek to understand the lived experiences of individuals who participate in online church services. Online church has rapidly grown in the past few years and many Americans have participated in, or are willing to participate in, alternatives to traditional worship. Many churches are adopting online formats as a way to address the interest of individuals in alternative worship experiences. This study seeks to understand how individuals use online worship and how it plays into their spiritual lives.

Danish Churches And Congregations In Indianapolis, 1868-1885, Barbara R. George
Danish Churches And Congregations In Indianapolis, 1868-1885, Barbara R. George
The Bridge
A look at the population make-up of Indianapolis and Indiana during the time period from the end of the Civil War (approximately 1865) until the 1880s shows that the Danes had little impact in the relatively small Indiana immigration picture. Indiana was less influenced by foreign born than any other northern state. Although ranking ninth in the number of German-born residents in 1880, Indiana ranked thirteenth in the number of foreign born, and was sixth in total population. As a state it was not particularly aggressive in promoting itself as a viable destination for immigrants, and ranked only in front …
Where Shall We Live? Class And The Limitations Of Fair Housing Law, Wendell Pritchett
Where Shall We Live? Class And The Limitations Of Fair Housing Law, Wendell Pritchett
All Faculty Scholarship
This paper examines the effort to secure fair housing laws at the local, state and federal levels in the 1950s, focusing in particular on New York City and state. It will examine the arguments that advocates made regarding the role the law should play in preventing housing discrimination, and the relationship of these views to advocates' understanding of property rights in general. My paper will argue that fair housing advocates had particular conceptions about the importance of housing in American society that both supported and limited their success. By arguing that minorities only sought what others wanted - a single-family …

Kirkegaard Families' Years On The Nebraska Prairie, Jean Matteson
The Bridge
Anders Laugesen Nielsen Kirkegaard (1860-1940), son of Lauge Nielsen and Sidsel Marie Kristiansen, was born in Harbo0re, Ringk0bing Parish, Ringk0bing County, Denmark, on October 4, 1860. After attending grade school near his home, he moved to Copenhagen where he became a carpenter's apprentice. At the age of eighteen, having a workable knowledge of God, he felt a calling toward the ministry. He wondered whether he should go to Asia or America. With the help of friends, Kirkegaard chose the latter. Kirkegaard returned to Copenhagen where he had been a carpenter and a soldier, and a student at the Copenhagen School …
