Ouachita Announces 2024 Stepping Up Honorees, Felley Lawson, Office Of Communications & Marketing

Ouachita Baptist University will host its annual Stepping Up for Ouachita luncheon Friday, Nov. 8, at Chenal Country Club in Little Rock. The event will honor Susan Doshier of Frisco, Texas; Shari Edwards of North Little Rock, Ark.; Carol Miller Gresham of Springdale, Ark.; and Kathy Rainwater of Little Rock, Ark. Ticket and sponsorship information is available at obu.edu/steppingup.
Each year during Stepping Up for Ouachita, the university honors women alumni or friends of Ouachita who have demonstrated grace, leadership, integrity and faith.

Dr. J.D. Patterson, a noted alumnus, benefactor and former trustee of Ouachita Baptist University, died Sunday, March 26, at age 90.
University trustees affirmed Dr. Patterson’s lifelong commitment to Ouachita by naming the J.D. Patterson School of Natural Sciences in his honor in 2002. A 1947 Ouachita alumnus, he received Ouachita’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1984 and an honorary Doctor of Science degree in 1999. He served two terms on the Ouachita Board of Trustees from 2005 through 2011.

Honoring its seventh class of Ouachita Alumni Milestone Awards recipients, Ouachita Baptist University recognized outstanding graduates from the classes of 1966, 1976, 1986, 1996 and 2006 at halftime of the Homecoming football game Oct. 15. The alumni honorees were selected by a committee of Ouachita faculty and staff to represent their milestone reunion classes.
This year’s Homecoming festivities also included the presentation of a Worthy Ouachitonian Award by Ouachita President Ben Sells.

Peter J. Finley Sr. was born an only child to parents John J. Finley and Margaret Francis Dunn in 1931, in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He grew up in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia. Peter attended St. Francis Xavier School for grade school, La Salle Prep School afterwards—located at 1240 North Broad Street at the time—and La Salle College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 1953. Peter’s connection to La Salle began early in his childhood; his father, John J. Finley, was in the College’s graduating class of 1924. Peter earned a master’s degree at the College …
