Judging from the concerns shared by a majority of its contributing authors, the dominant theme throughout this four-part interdisciplinary anthology is the relatively few gains for Chicanas/os since the Brown Power Movement of the 1960s and 1970s. A central theme in Part I concerns the recent influx of Latin American immigrants, a rise among the foreign-born, and the continuing concentration of Chicanos/as amongst the unemployed, the underpaid, and the destitute despite their high labor force participation.

The Current Status Of Women's Employment In Outdoor Leadership, T. A. Loeffler

The study analyzed women's employment rates from 62 outdoor organizations to determine women's rep­resentation in the outdoor field. Statistical analysis revealed that women were under-represented in outdoor organizations at the executive and management levels using a proportionality standard. Additionally, women reported lower salaries and higher gender-based discrimination occurrences than their male coun­terparts.

Based on analysis of a risk assessment for a proposed Louisiana uranium enrichment facility, the authors argue that environmental injustice occurs when assessors' scientific methods cause de facto discrimination.

Cultural Wage Differentials Among United States Immigrants, Bill Takahashi

This project will attempt to take a modern snapshot of the ongoing process of immigration and cultural diversification, examine the problem of immigrant adaptation into the American way of life and explore which groups, if any, have an advantage when it comes to integrating into American society. More specifically this paper will address the question: What is the role of cultural factors in determining the standard of living of immigrants.
