The Motivational Bases Of Attitudes To Living North And South Of The Swan River, Darren L. Reynolds Jan 1993

The Motivational Bases Of Attitudes To Living North And South Of The Swan River, Darren L. Reynolds

Theses : Honours

Previous approaches to the study of motivation within the domain of place were found to be disparate, and in need of a firm theoretical framework and appropriate methodology. With the exception of Korpela's (1989) model of place identity, the issues of motivation and operationalization of other theoretical perspectives, (e.g., Proshansky, Fabian, and Kaminoff; 1983) have led to a sparse research base in the area of place. Recent developments in attitude theory ( Herek, 1986; 1987; Zanna & Rempel, 1988) and attitude model development (Hills, 1991) were then applied to the place domain A tripartite model of the motivational bases of …

The Population Turnaround: A Case Study Of The Shire Of Toodyay, Matthew A. Tonts

Theses : Honours

During the 1970's a number of Australia's rural municipalities began to counter the long term pattern of population decline. This thesis provides empirical evidence of these changes within Western Australia and investigates the reasons for the turnaround. To develop this, a case-study examination has been made of the Shire of Toodyay in an effort to ascertain the circumstances surrounding households decisions to migrate into rural districts. This study reveals that the newcomer households exhibit a diverse range of characteristics and conform to no clear stereotypical groupings. Rather1 it appears that those who have made the transition have done so in …

A Paper For The People? : The Sunday Times 1897-1905, Karen Byers

Theses : Honours

The Sunday Times was born of regional and mining dissent and survived a precarious infancy in conservative Perth. Established in December,I897, under the banner of "A Journal for the People," (later "A Paper for the People") it announced both its political and journalistic stance: as an opposition newspaper. Unlike its nineteenth century antiestablishment predecessors, the Sunday Times endured because of the significant and permanent demographic changes in Western Australia commencing in the 1890's and the consequent shifts in the origin and distribution of wealth. The paper later published metropolitan and goldfields editions and its circulation also extended to other parts …
