In the last 10 years, the EEOC saw a 200% increase in the number of ethnic based discrimination charges involving individuals who were perceived to be of an Arab background (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, 2017). However, little empirical work has been done to detect and amend this trend. To answer this gap, this investigation examined the expression of modern bias through the lens of the justification-suppression model (Crandall & Eshleman, 2003) in order to detect and explain possible discrimination Arabs may experience during employment interviews. Perceiving Organization As An Entity : The Relationship Of Entitativity And Organizational Justice Perception, Wei Zhuang

Entitativity is an important group construct that has received little attention in the organizational psychology literature. The current study based on 343 employed individuals explores the potential role of entitativity perceptions of organizations on the relationship between justice perceptions and employees’ emotional and behavioral reactions. Results of a three-wave survey study suggest that entitativity perceptions are positively associated with employees’ experienced gratitude toward organizations but have no relationship with employees experienced anger toward organizations. In today’s workplace, managers are expected to provide ongoing informal performance feedback to their employees. This becomes a challenge when organizations are geographically dispersed and managers do not work in the same location as their subordinates. Managers must identify a media channel to use for hosting these informal employee performance discussions, and the traditional method of face-to-face is not always an option. This study evaluates the extent to which the communication channel used to host informal performance conversations influences employees’ perceptions of media richness, ease of use, channel usefulness, and feedback effectiveness. Women who violate the female gender role norm of communality by acting agentically have been found to experience social repercussions, such as decreased likability (Eagly & Wood, 2012). This phenomenon has been defined as the backlash effect (Rudman, 1998). The current work draws upon this idea and expands the area to a qualitative criterion, specifically written performance appraisals, and explores the relationship between the backlash effect and individual outcomes of perceived supervisor support, affective organizational commitment and turnover intentions. This study uses the U.S. National Park Service (NPS) as case to study how racial formation in organizations is shaped by the changing institutional logics of race. It draws from the institutional logics perspective to advance theorizing on race in organizations as a multi-level process structured by societal race dynamics. It does so by studying three critical moments in the history of the NPS in which the organization was exposed, and had to respond to, varying logics of race.

Leadership and culture are two constructs often studied along with organizational justice, however; much of the past research has focused on measuring these constructs broadly. By measuring these constructs at a more granular level, this study aims to explore the specific linkages between clarifying, supporting, and recognizing leader behaviors and their relationship with interpersonal and informational justice. Results from this study go beyond broader leadership theories by finding that clarifying, supporting, and recognizing leader behaviors are important for predicting interpersonal justice perceptions. Assessing Factors Influencing Employees' Voice Behavior In Organizations, Nikita Agnihotri

The purpose of the present study was threefold: (1) to investigate the relationship between organizational based self- esteem and voice behavior, (2) to examine whether or not organizational identification interacts with organizational based self-esteem in significantly predicting voice behavior, and (3) to test another moderation effect, interaction of perceived organizational support and organizational based self-esteem in predicting voice behavior. Based on data from 482 undergraduate students, results suggested organization based self-esteem is strongly positively related to voice behavior. Additionally, the interaction of organization based self-esteem with both perceived organizational support and organizational identification in predicting voice behavior was not significant. …

This dissertation examines how neoliberalism and immigration enforcement between 1980 and 2010 changed the nature of ‘sweated’ work in the U.S. This dissertation focuses on the particular case of Latino undocumented workers in New York State and the organizations fighting to win them protections. In order to answer my research questions, I conducted 30 semi-structured interviews over the course of 2 years (2013-2015), examined immigration enforcement data, and analyzed U.S. immigration and welfare policies between 1980 and the present. With the assumption that the more justice the better, studies in the past have overlooked the implications of the consistency in daily justice experiences. Interpersonal justice especially tends to be associated with frequent fluctuations on the daily basis among the justice dimensions. An Empirical Examination Of The Causal Reasoning Perspective Of Counterproductive Work Behavior, Choe Shannon

This study used the causal reasoning perspective of counterproductive work behaviors (CWB) developed by Martinko, Gundlach and Douglas (2002) to evaluate the role of narcissism and low self-esteem in relation to interpersonal injustice. Narcissism and low self-esteem were proposed to relate to distinct attributional and emotional reactions following interpersonal injustice, stemming from different approach-avoidance motivational tendencies. These different tendencies, in turn, were proposed to relate to certain forms of CWB, as categorized within an approach-avoidance framework. They have been associated with reductions in employment, labor force participation, labor supply, lower productivity and earnings. This research attempts to increase understanding of how judgmental performance in a personnel evaluation task is influenced by task properties and cognitive strategy. The study relies on Cognitive Continuum Theory (CCT) which is based on Social Judgment Theory (SJT). The purpose of the present study was to investigate the influence of the rater values of individualism and collectivism on weights placed on different types of performance behaviors when making overall performance ratings in a performance appraisal context. Specifically, it was proposed that in comparison to individualistic raters, collectivistic raters would place lower weights on task performance, higher weights on citizenship performance and higher weights on counterproductive performance behaviors. This study attempts to provide a comprehensive understanding of the antecedents of public employees' organizational citizenship behaviors (OCBs). Using Deci and Ryan's Self-determination theory as an overarching framework, this study tests the argument put forth by public management researchers that public employees' OCB will be influenced by their personal beliefs and organizational values as well as by their general satisfaction with their work environment. Based on this notion, public employees' prosocial orientation, organizational identification and subjective OCB norms are thus examined as major antecedents of OCB in this study.

Research on perceived organizational support has focused on theoretical antecedents and organizational outcomes, however to date there is limited research on practical interventions to enhance POS. The present study examined, in a lab setting, whether two operationalizations of justice, provision of information (informational justice) and encouraging suggestions (procedural justice) influence the extent to which employees feel supported by their organization. The study tested hypotheses about (a) the perceived balance of personal resources experienced by residential frontline staff (RFS) to meet the challenges and demands at work and (b) the relevance of the supervisory relationship to support their job-specific wellbeing. Consistent with the Conservation with Resources (COR, Hobfoll, 1989, 1998; Hobfoll & Freedy, 1993; Hobfoll & Shirom, 2001) theory, burnout and vigor were measured by the RFS's reported levels of available personal energy resources.

Adults in the workforce face various psychosocial challenges over the course of their career. One of the most stressful life experiences is the involuntary loss of employment (Holmes & Rahe, 1967). This study explored psychological reactions to involuntary job loss and the overlap between reactions to job loss and bereavement loss. It was hypothesized that the pattern of symptoms reported by a job loss group would not differ significantly from a bereavement group.
