In the summer of 1997, the Engineering Management Department of the University of Missouri-Rolla's (UMR) began offering its first Internet-based graduate level course. This course, Advanced Production Management, was designed to utilize a combination of Internet-based tools, such as EMail and Chat rooms to create a alternative means for the delivery of course material. This paper will draw these following conclusions from more than a year of research, which included over 100 students in six different course offerings. Our project sought to integrate the Leadership at 20 text with current material in the Foundations of Leadership Studies course. In doing so we enhanced the students' perspective and understanding of leadership studies. To foster a smooth transition we have developed a teacher's manual that provide3s activities, which parallel the readings to ensure that these materials are used in an effective and efficient manner.

The purpose of this project is to take two fields of study, Leadership Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies (a.k.a. Peace Studies), and critically analyze how both can mutually benefit each other. For this purpose, a proposed model of an academic course combining the two fields of study in the form of a conceptual syllabus will be included in the appendix. However, before such a course is taught, the connections between two previously unconnected fields must be made. The Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond initiated a program entitled the Art of Teaching Leadership in the summer of 1998. This project was a continuation of several years of work attempting to integrate leadership into elementary, middle and high school curriculum. This project adds new insight into the realm of K-12 (kindergarten through twelfth grade) leadership curriculum. About thirty K-12 teachers came together from various schools throughout the Richmond community as well as from Cape Town, South Africa and Namibia to attend the one-week pilot program. In turning Twain's kaleidoscope and looking through the light of the social sciences a new combination of colored glass comes into view.
