In Fall 2015, local historian Yvonne Giles approached staff in the Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) at the University of Kentucky Libraries about holding a basic archives workshop for clerks and secretaries of Lexington African American Baptist churches. Staff were excited to partner with Yvonne and held the first workshop for four participants in November 2015. The second workshop, given in early March 2016, attracted 15 participants from a wide variety of local organizations. A third workshop was held in June 2016. Framing Information Literacy: The Importance Of Setting The Stage, Beth Fuchs

Do students learn more when information literacy instruction is provided in-person by a librarian, mediated by their course instructor using a librarian-created tutorial, or self-paced using a tutorial? This presentation will focus on assessment results from a multi-sectioned college course targeting first-year students that explored this question and revealed an unexpected answer. Use the results, which are applicable to any instructional setting, to plan your next information literacy session.

Each year the University of Kentucky College of Arts and Sciences celebrates the cultural heritage of a country/region with its Passport to the World Program (PWP). The University of Kentucky Libraries International Programs has been an active contributor to PWP since 2010. We have coordinated liaison librarians’ collaboration with faculty from different departments to annotate and showcase relevant materials from the library’s collections in physical and online exhibits. We have also hosted lectures and movie screenings in which faculty introduce audiences to specific cultural features and practices.

"Capstone Officials" And Public Records: Risk, Buy-In, And Archival Selection, Ruth E. Bryan

Use of records schedules as appraisal tools works well for routine records held by low-level employees in public institutions. Records created by top-level public officials, however, can be more challenging to schedule. Using NARA's recent definition of "capstone officials" as a starting concept, panelists representing public universities and state and federal governments present case studies from their own institutions dealing with policy creation for capstone officials' records, records schedules and public records laws, and archival selection.

Starting Over: Coding To Work With Alma After Voyager, Kathryn Lybarger

When the University of Kentucky was a Voyager library, I wrote a variety of tools to support our processes, ranging from tiny one-line macros to larger software packages. Now that we've migrated to Alma/Primo, everything has changed! Many of the ways I extended Voyager are part of Alma by default, and Alma's community (and available APIs) encourage even further development. In this presentation, I will describe some differences between the two systems, how they affected the types of support tools I wanted, and the ways I was able to create them.

University of Kentucky Special Collections Research Center implemented Archivists’ Toolkit in 2009-2010 and ArchivesSpace in 2015. We continue to explore and develop procedures, policies, and uses of AS. As part of the Collaborative Federal Depository Program (CFDP), two pieces of software were developed to support the collection development activities of FDLP libraries in the Southeast. Most are very familiar with the ASERL Disposition Database, but some may have forgotten its quiet counter-part, the ASERL COE Database. This database is comprised of brief cataloging records that indicate holdings for all Center of Excellence (COE) libraries (and other contributing depository libraries) in the Southeast and serves as a tool for analyzing the completeness of COE collection(s) and to identify gaps.
