Throughout this body of work, I explore the challenges faced regarding proper waste management and its interconnectedness in political developments. Specifically, I examine this subject in the case of the greater metropolitan area of Tunis. Having lived in Tunisia each summer since I was born, I have seen the many stages of the country’s waste issue. This thesis looks to compare the ways in which the internet informs and organizes political behavior within China and the United States. Both countries are dissimilar in how they define the domain, purpose, and accessibility of the internet for their citizens. In some respects, when conceptualizing the internet as a geopolitical landscape (a new “region” in which political activity operates) similarities can be drawn from how the nation-state and their citizens utilize it as a tool for realizing political objectives. Diagnosing The Health And Outlook Of Democracy In Benin, Daniel Bălțoi

Academics and journalists have characterized the West African state of Benin as a democracy in decline under President Patrice Talon, elected in 2016 and reelected in 2021. This thesis explains that trend and its historical background. After comparing Benin with other African democracies of varying strengths, it is concluded that despite setbacks experienced under Talon, in the long run, Benin’s democratic institutions will hold firm and survive.

There are several identifiable and ubiquitous reasons why U.S. democracy building interventions fail abroad. The literature has shown that the principal reason that U.S. democracy building efforts fail is that they prioritize seeking immediate stability over creating long-lasting support for liberal democratic institutions.
