Using Facebook To Engage Stakeholders: Developing A Content Strategy To Meet Dynamic Social Media Challenges, Scott Bacon, Amanda Foster Jan 2013

Using Facebook To Engage Stakeholders: Developing A Content Strategy To Meet Dynamic Social Media Challenges, Scott Bacon, Amanda Foster

Library Faculty Publications

Facebook is often used by higher education institutions to increase engagement with the campus population and larger community. Facebook page administrators must successfully navigate Facebook's News Feed algorithm to have content reach the largest possible audience. This algorithm uses different measures of audience interaction when determining how "engaging" a post is, rewarding the more engaging posts by increasing the likelihood that they will show up in a fan's News Feed. This paper will explore the process taken by Coastal Carolina University's Kimbel Library to re-develop our content strategy in order to increase engagement on our Facebook page. The authors recommend …

The Korean Buddhist Nun Chiyul (Jiyul) And Ecofeminism: Hunger Strikes, The Lawsuit For Salamanders, And Walking Protests, Ronald S. Green, Chanju Mun

Philosophy and Religious Studies

Chiyul (b. 1957), a nun of the Chogye Order of Korean Buddhism, led protests against government construction of a KTX (Korea Train eXpress) tunnel passing through Mt. Ch’ŏnsŏng between 2002 and 2006 and participated in protests against the government’s nationwide four major rivers restoration project between 2008 and 2012, focusing on the Nakdong River. Creating Computer Availability Maps: Increasing Access To Library Resources, Scott Bacon

Library Faculty Presentations

Our library created computer availability maps in order to provide patrons with real-time availability of computers in the library and information commons. This presentation will review how the library created the computer availability mapping system, including loading Perl scripts onto library computers, linking the computers to an SQL database, programming an administrative console with drag-and-drop capabilities for each machine and publishing the maps to a variety of public interfaces including help desk monitors, web pages, and the mobile library website.

Is Navigation In Virtual Reality With Fmri Really Navigation?, J.S. Taube, S. Valerio, R.M. Yoder Jan 2013

Is Navigation In Virtual Reality With Fmri Really Navigation?, J.S. Taube, S. Valerio, R.M. Yoder

Psychology

Identifying the neural mechanisms underlying spatial orientation and navigation has long posed a challenge for researchers. Multiple approaches incorporating a variety of techniques and animal models have been used to address this issue. More recently, virtual navigation has become a popular tool for understanding navigational processes. Although combining this technique with functional imaging can provide important information on many aspects of spatial navigation, it is important to recognize some of the limitations these techniques have for gaining a complete understanding of the neural mechanisms of navigation. Foremost among these is that, when participants perform a virtual navigation task in a …
