Practitioners and researchers are concerned about the limited social inclusion and social networks of individuals with an Intellectual Disability (ID) (Amado, 2014; Bigby & Craig, 2017; Hall, 2010; Hardman & Clark, 2006; Knox & Hickson, 2001; McConkey & Collins, 2010; Tipton, 2011). When recently diagnosed with a chronic illness, individuals face various challenging events that require social support. Nephrology social workers are expected to increase the psychosocial functioning and adjustment of individuals diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). Limited studies are available regarding patients with ESRD, social support, and quality of life. This research was intended to explain the effect of familial support on the quality of life of patients diagnosed with ESRD.
