The purpose of this study is to explore the reasons why child welfare social workers choose to stay working in child protection as their long-term professional career. Twenty-two career child welfare social workers' perceptions of their long-term employment were examined. If these reasons can be identified, child welfare agencies could possibly develop hiring processes, training systems, and other organizational processes that would target and nurture the right social worker for the job.
