The study was designed to explore and describe the relationship between young adults' sense of meaning and purpose in life and the experience of depression. The relationship between the existential constructs of meaning and purpose in life, assessed using Reker's (1992) Life Attitude Profile - Revised (LAP-R) instrument, and depression, assessed using Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI), was explored in young adults.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the Independent Living Program in San Bernardino and Riverside counties to transition foster care youth to independence of the social services system. The study provided a compilation of services and resources available through Cameron Hill Aftercare Services in San Bernardino for emancipated foster youth to assist with the successful transition toward independence as well as access to higher education and stability in housing and employment.

The project attempted to understand what factors create the highest levels of stress for African-American caregivers. Quantitative data was gathered from a self-administered questionnaire given to caregivers that attend Inland Caregiver Resource Center and take their loved ones to a Davita Dialysis center in the Riverside area. Participants were asked to complete the Caregiver Burden Scale (CBS) and additional questions regarding demographics and community services known and used by the caregiver. The purpose of this qualitative study is to gain insight into the needs of children with ADHD from the perspective of teachers. Interviews were conducted either face-to-face or by telephone with teacher participants provided by Sylvan Learning Center and through snowball sampling. Findings of this study are expected to give social workers an opportunity to work collaboratively with teachers, parents and mental health professionals in applying a multimodal approach toward developing effective treatment strategies for children with ADHD.

This study examined the impact and extent to which drugs and alcohol, consumed by mothers prenatally and perinatally, has affected their capacity to attach to their children. Children's Asthma: Relationship Between Parental Education And Frequency Of Emergency Room Visits, Victorine Natalie Brewer-Benjamin

Examines the relationship between parental education on asthma and the frequency of emergency room visits with their children for asthma incidences. The research was conducted at an acute care hospital in Southern California using a sample of 32 parents. Data was collected using a self-administered survey questionnaire employing a quantitative research design and chi-square test. Results indicate that although parents found education beneficial in controlling their child's asthma, there was no significant correlation between education and frequency of hospitalization and emergency room visits.

The purpose of this study was to identify salient factors contributing to the overrepresentation of African Americans in the child welfare system. This study seeks to examine whether or not public child welfare workers are biased in their assessments of African Americans, and if years of experience influence their judgment. By understanding some of the salient factors that contribute to these disproportionate numbers, Child Welfare Services can begin to revamp their programs and services to ensure that they are more culturally sensitive and equitable.

Three psychosocial dynamics were assessed for their effect on role satisfaction among grandchildren: (1) the impact of expanding a household on a limited fixed income, (2) health issues of the grandparent as they apply to stamina, and (3) the interaction with their existing social structure to include grandchildren (adjustments, prioritizing, and social isolation).
