The challenges that Western-trained medical missionaries and Christian doctors face is that their African patients, some of whom may be Christians, do consult all the healers in the parallel medical systems freely and almost simultaneously, the result of which may be complications, and possibly mental confusion, due to medications from different sources being taken at the same time without any liaison between doctors and healers.

Anti-Urbanism In Culture And In The Adventist Church: Advocacy And Action For Urban Ministry In The Twentieth Century—Part 2, Jerry R. Chase

This article explores the response within the Seventh-day Adventist Church after Ellen G. White’s death to the dual emphases in her writings on the city and rural living. On one hand she strongly encouraged large Adventist institutions and families raising children to locate out of the cities. This was because of the advantages natural surroundings have on physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, and to shield children and young adults from the evils and temptations of the city. "As Ellen White’s words of 1909 imply, urban-focused mission has a long history in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. It goes beyond the work of Dr. John Harvey Kellogg in Chicago, the one exemplar which is reasonably well known but which comes with proverbial baggage, given what happened with Kellogg.
