Old Testament Temple Worship, Edwin Jording Jun 1940

Old Testament Temple Worship, Edwin Jording

Bachelor of Divinity

Modernist deny the fact that Sacrifices belonged to the essence or the Old Testament Temple worship. They declare the Old Testament sacrifices to have been foreign elements in the Old Testament worship, tolerated by Moses, but criticized by the prophets. One of the prophecies quoted to show that the Lord disapproved of the sacrifices of Israel is Isaiah 1,11. Every unprejudiced reader of the Bible, however, will see that sacrifices constitute the center of the Old Testament worship. For God accepted these sacrifices as an atonement for sins because they pointed to the complete sacrifice of Christ.

The Passive And Active Obedience Of Christ, Bruno Martinelli Jun 1940

The Passive And Active Obedience Of Christ, Bruno Martinelli

Bachelor of Divinity

In describing the manner in which the God-Man Christ Jesus performed the mission for which God sent Him and to which the Son consented in willing obedience, Scripture speaks not only passive obedience of Christ, but just as clearly of His active obedience.

Qualifications Of A Chrisitan Minister And Teacher And Teaching Procedures As Exemplified In The Life And Teaching Of Jesus, Leonard Thaemert Jun 1940

Qualifications Of A Chrisitan Minister And Teacher And Teaching Procedures As Exemplified In The Life And Teaching Of Jesus, Leonard Thaemert

Bachelor of Divinity

What were the qualifications of Jesus for this important work? We have only a few glances into His rich but brief life here on earth; but all of these are significant, and indicate that He was steadily pursuing a definite purpose and fitting Himself for a specific service. If we consider what He did after the age of thirty, we are led to the conclusion that all His earlier years were spent in study, in meditation in prayer, in direct communion with the Father as preparatory for His three years of service. How significant this is to see in Him …

The Doctrine Of Offense, Arthur Weber Jun 1940

The Doctrine Of Offense, Arthur Weber

Bachelor of Divinity

The fundamental thought of this thesis revolves around the word skandalon. For that reason it will be necessary to begin with a study of its etymology in the effort to bring out the full connotation of the word as it is used in the Bible. It is apparent from the following etymological study that the word skandalon means "a stumbling block or trap which causes one to fall.”

The Day Of Atonement And Its Evaluation In The Epistle To The Hebrews, Theodore Stolp May 1940

The Day Of Atonement And Its Evaluation In The Epistle To The Hebrews, Theodore Stolp

Bachelor of Divinity

Thus the Day of Atonement stands before us in the Scripture as a monument of that wisdom of God which always finds means exactly fitted to supply the needs of men under the conditions and times in which they live, and still more as a monument to that loving kindness of the Lord which is ever stooping to the sinners to rescue their souls from death and to “restore unto them the joy of His salvation.”

A Criticism Of The Madras Conference From The Standpoint Of A Christian Believer, Wilbert Griesse Apr 1940

A Criticism Of The Madras Conference From The Standpoint Of A Christian Believer, Wilbert Griesse

Bachelor of Divinity

What a wonderful thing it would be if all the denominations could get together on a common ground and work together against ·the forces of sin and hell: What an impression that would make upon the world! Such a condition would greatly further the cause of missions. It was especially the younger churches that were crying for unity. The younger churches cannot understand the divisions and the multiplied organizations of the mother churches. If they are all Christian, why are they not united?

Demoniac Possession, Harold Maleske Apr 1940

Demoniac Possession, Harold Maleske

Bachelor of Divinity

Among the many miracles which the synoptic Gospels record, special prominence is given to the casting out of demons or devils who possessed those unfortunate people commonly known as demoniacs. In order to clarify the Biblical concept of demoniac possession, the following facts concerning the Scriptural doctrine of the devil and his hosts must be considered.

Liberialism In Contrast To The Biblical Faith, William Grunow Apr 1940

Liberialism In Contrast To The Biblical Faith, William Grunow

Bachelor of Divinity

This paper is a study of the doctrines of Liberalism. By being thoroughly familiar with these doctrines, the student will not be misled by the sheep’s clothing of orthodox phraseology which Liberalists often employ.

The Fulfillment Of Old Testament Prophecy In The Gospel Of St Matthew Exegetically And Doctrinally Treated, Herbert Goerss Apr 1940

The Fulfillment Of Old Testament Prophecy In The Gospel Of St Matthew Exegetically And Doctrinally Treated, Herbert Goerss

Bachelor of Divinity

Matthew has some 27 prophecy quotations in his Gospel. We list them here as they occur from time to time in the Gospel, giving the location of the fulfillment, the subject prophesied, and the location of the prophecy. Of course, in some cases, various prophecies have the same fulfillment.

Tradition And Reason In The Roman Sacraments, Wilfred Janke Apr 1940

Tradition And Reason In The Roman Sacraments, Wilfred Janke

Bachelor of Divinity

The supernatural truth was revealed to man through the Word of God. To this the Roman Catholic Church adds the unwritten tradition committed to the Church. Both Protestants and Catholics agree that it is not enough that God should give His revelation to man, but that gift must be kept pure and unalloyed and entire, otherwise it would be valueless. God, therefore, must both provide the sacred source of truth and keep it clean and uncontaminated. So far the two bodies are agreed.

The Internal Relationship, Linguistic And Theological, Between The Gospel Of John And The Epistles Of John, Marvin Kammrath Apr 1940

The Internal Relationship, Linguistic And Theological, Between The Gospel Of John And The Epistles Of John, Marvin Kammrath

Bachelor of Divinity

The intrinsic value of a paper such as the one here presented, lies not so much in the impression made by the finished product as in the profitable textual study which it entails. The task of digging deep into the language and theology of four books of the New Testament has been a pleasant one. In addition to the joy of working with the original Greek of the sacred New Testament, of making careful literal translations and thorough exegetical studies, there has been the added satisfaction of unfolding cumulative doctrinal evidence overwhelming in its depth and extent.

The Doctrine Of Justification By Faith The Leimotif Of The Apology Of The Augsburg Confession, Lorman Petersen Apr 1940

The Doctrine Of Justification By Faith The Leimotif Of The Apology Of The Augsburg Confession, Lorman Petersen

Bachelor of Divinity

The purpose of this thesis is not to present Catholic doctrine and refute it, but, self-evidently, to show that the Doctrine of Justification by Faith is the Leitmotif of the Apology. We make no claim that we have accomplished our purpose, or that we have done justice to this great Christ centered Confession of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. We have only scratched the surface of this document so rich in Christian doctrine. Melanchthon was a master-mind, and it takes a master-mind to follow him.

The Catechumenate Of The Church, G F. Busch Apr 1940

The Catechumenate Of The Church, G F. Busch

Bachelor of Divinity

In a Christian home the mother usually is the first teacher. And after Baptism the child is a child of God, and must then be brought up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, and this by means of living and instruction. It. is true, the child does not understand much at first, sometimes not even his own prayers, but it will soon learn to understand, and sometimes if mother forgets about the evening prayer, the child will remind her of it. And if we search the Scriptures, as Jesus commands us to do according to John 5,3, we …

The Knowledge And Use Of The Bible In The Medieval Age, Martin Bertermann Apr 1940

The Knowledge And Use Of The Bible In The Medieval Age, Martin Bertermann

Bachelor of Divinity

In attempting to show precisely to what extent the new learning pervaded the countries of Europe during the Middle Ages, and, specifically, just in how far the Bible was known among the clergy and laity, one must be careful to strive for the golden mean in interpreting a flood of literature which usually goes to one of two extremes. The first of these divergent opinions is the one mentioned above, that the Bible, as almost wholly unknown by the clergy and laity of the Middle Ages. And this would seem to be substantiated by no less an authority than Luther …

The Use Of Hades In The New Testament, Louis Meyer Apr 1940

The Use Of Hades In The New Testament, Louis Meyer

Bachelor of Divinity

The word hades (sheol) presents a problem--a matter on which the theologians or our own Synod are not agreed. Many of them believe that the word has various meanings--that in certain passages it means hell, while in other passages it has a general meaning, namely, "the state of death”. There are also those who are of the conviction that the term is never used to designate hell, the place of eternal punishment, but only means "the state or condition of death".

It is the latter view which, after careful study of the problem, I consider to be the more correct …
