Nearly half a million children are currently served by the child welfare system in the United States. This overwhelming strain on state departments and non-profit placement agencies is compounded by the fact that there are not enough available homes. There appears to be a shortage of capable and resilient foster and adoptive parents. Thousands of children who are ready to be adopted do not have anyone to take them in, and thousands more float in the system until new families agree to foster. The purpose of this writing is to present a biography of George Reynolds from 1842 through 1872. This study was made using the historical approach of doing research. The primary sources were the "Journal of George Reynolds" in six volumes and personal interviews with his living descendants. Other unpublished documents were discovered, such as copies of letters and short sketches, and were used in the writing.
This biography is principally limited to a study of the first thirty years of the life of George Reynolds. It includes his early life, conversion, and first mission; his service as mission secretary and …

The "History of the Southern States Mission, 1831-1861," traces the development of a system of proselyting in the southeastern United States, and its effect on the lives of both missionaries and converts who embraced the principles of the restored gospel taught by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
This study includes an examination of twenty-eight personal missionary journals, and consequently gives a valid picture of Latter-day Saint objectives and the sacrifices necessary to achieve them. Their objectives were to carry the message to the world and build up the Kingdom of God.
