This thesis explores the significance of interrelational dynamics for pastoral counselling. Sources include a literary review of object relations theory and personal observation. This work attempts to integrate object relations therapy. incarnational theology and the clinical paradigm of pastoral counselling. From an object relations perspective, we are relational beings and therapeutic relationships define therapy. In a parallel process, the gospel directs pastoral counsellmg. as a relational process. beyond the message to an interplay between interrelational dynamics and healing processes. An examination of a voluntary association of Canadian evangelicals, that is known as the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC), contributes to the growing body of knowledge concerning Canadian evangelicals. This thesis begins by indicating how the sociology of knowledge, voluntary association theory and network theory are relevant to the study of the EFC and of Canadian evangelicalism. It then discusses an alternate approach to defining evangelicals and briefly summarizes the history of Canadian evangelicals and of the EFC. Engaging Denial Through Spirituality: An Ethnographic Study Of Caregivers Of The Elderly And Implications For Pastoral Care, Ian Elliott Gartshore

The paper examines a number of studies conducted on caregivers of the institutionalized elderly, including a large qualitative research project conducted by the author and a hospital administrator. Finding that many professional caregivers of the aged continue to deny their own aging and death to some degree, this paper seeks to chart the relationship between such denial and spiritual wholeness. The facets of denial, both positive and negative, are examined in the light of the dual nature of spirituality. In the past twenty years there has been an increase in the number of Clergy Couples. This study uses qualitative methods in order to research the question: What are the potentials and problems of clergy couples in ministry? Nine clergy couples were interviewed. A deductive content analysis of the data was done using the five categories of vocation issues, identity issues, support issues, time issues, and boundary/role issues. Results indicated that reported problems were dominated by boundary/role issues; reported potentials were dominated by vocation, identity and support issues. In response to the Church's mission to manifest God's love in active concern for those in need, the experiences that have helped or blocked families to develop coping skills when faced with the pain of job loss due to the crisis in the fishing industry in rural Newfoundland and the recession in urban Ontario were investigated and recommendations for systemic pastoral care were made. This thesis explores the attitudes of EuroCanadian. Protestant evangelical Christians, towards Canada's aboriginal peoples, particularly as they pertain to the training of Native ministerial candidates. In addition to EuroCanadian perspectives, Native voices are included in this examination, specifically, the opinions and attitudes expressed by aboriginal individuals who either have had experience as Native candidates under the tutelage of non-Native teachers and administrators, or who have spent many years observing the effects of such training upon their youth and their churches.
