Rehabilitation professionals including occupational therapists (OT) and physical therapists (PT) are increasingly called upon to incorporate health promotion of lifestyle behaviors including physical activity and healthy eating into routine clinical care. While OTs and PTs may be comfortable promoting activity-related behaviors, many are less comfortable with nutrition behaviors. To address entry-level OT and PT students’ perceived discomfort with discussing diet-related behaviors, faculty developed a healthy eating module for students to use during a community-based service learning program. Introduction: Making turn is a challenging task that is reported as one of the activities that most frequently leads to fall in stroke patients. Among community-dwelling older adults, hip fractures are eight times more likely to result from falls while making turns than from falls while walking straight. The stroke patients have asymmetric posture and movements due to hemiparesis, thus their turning performance may varied depending on the direction of the turn. Objective: Post-stroke dysphagia is associated with increased morbidity and mortality in acute stroke patients due to malnutrition or aspiration. This study compares the hyolaryngeal movement during swallowing between post-stroke dysphagia patients with and without penetration/aspiration by videofluoroscopy swallowing study (VFSS). The goal was to find out possible defects in swallow mechunism for improving post-stroke dysphagia swallowing training. Ultrasound is increasingly used for the diagnosis of musculoskeletal conditions, particularly in soft tissue injuries. In some cases, it is useful for the evaluation of fractures. A 54-year-old woman presented with focal a non-traumatic right-sided chest pain. Physical examination revealed a focal area of tenderness on palpation. Erect chest X-ray was unremarkable. The effects of interstitial lung disease (ILD) create a significant burden on patients, unsettling almost every domain of their lives, disrupting their physical and emotional well-being and impairing their quality of life (QoL). Because many ILDs are incurable, and there are limited reliably-effective, life-prolonging treatment options available, the focus of many therapeutic interventions has been on improving or maintaining how patients with ILD feel and function, and by extension, their QoL. Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSDs) are cumulative traumatic disorders that result from work-related ergonomic factors, such as repetitive motion, forceful exertion, awkward posture, holding a vibrating tool, and working in an environment that causes whole-body vibration. These risk factors may induce tendinitis, tenosynovitis, entrapment neuropathy, bursitis, meniscus tear, and even herniation of the lumbar intervertebral disc. WRMSDs may not only affect a patient's health and quality of life but also entail substantial economic and labor costs. We report an adult woman who presented with lower limb weakness and dysesthesia caused by a thoracic spinal arachnoid cyst associated with syringomyelia. Before the diagnosis was made by thoracic magnetic resonance imaging, she was diagnosed with lumbar spondylosis and underwent lumbar spinal surgery; however, her symptoms were not relieved. The patient received multilevel laminectomy and cyst resection after thoracic pathology was identified. An upper motor neuron lesion, although rare, should be considered a differential diagnosis when leg symptoms and signs develop. Objective: This study attempted to investigate the correlation between severity of spasticity and functional recovery in acute and subacute stroke patients. Methods: A total of 22 acute and subacute stroke patients were analyzed. Methods used to evaluate outcomes included Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) for assessing upper limbs spasticity; Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA-UE), Box and Block Test (BBT) for assessing the motor ability of upper limbs; Functional Independence Measure (FIM) for assessing independent of daily life, and Stoke Impact Scale (SIS) for evaluating the quality of life. The study was designed to evaluate the therapeutic effect of extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) on the rehabilitation of patients with piriformis syndrome. Thirty-six patients diagnosed with unilateral piriformis syndrome were included and allocated randomly into three groups, Groups A-C, with twelve patients in each group. Patients in Groups A-C all received conventional physical modalities programs, including hot packs and interferential current therapy, three times weekly for six weeks. Estimating the post-voiding residual urine amount is essential for managing patients with neurogenic bladder. Accurate post-voiding residual urine estimation provides guidance for the appropriate frequency of catheter drainage and reduces the rate of urinary tract infection. Although urethral catheterization is the most accurate method of estimating post-voiding residual urine, a bladder scanner-a noninvasive portable ultrasound device-constitutes an alternative method. Objectives: Stroke is a vital cause of acute neurological dysfunction. This study evaluated the prevalence of comorbidities and their effects on functional recovery in patients with stroke. Methods: This was a prospective study. The participants were 105 patients with acute stroke with moderate to severe functional disability who were admitted for comprehensive rehabilitation. The participants were 76 patients who underwent the Post-acute Care-Cerebrovascular Diseases program and 29 participants who accepted a regular rehabilitation program within 6 months after stroke. Background: Lidocaine is commonly used for the treatment of a variety of tendinopathies in combination with corticosteroids injection. Purpose: The goal of this study was to evaluate the effect of lidocaine on migration, proliferation, protein expressions of type I and III collagen and cytotoxicity of tendon cells. Methods: Rat Achilles tendon cells were divided into control and study groups (treated with 0.1%, 0.15%, and 0.2% lidocaine). Therapeutic exercise can mitigate sensorimotor deficit and improve motor function in the upper limbs of stroke patients. During physical rehabilitation, elastic bandages (EB) are often used to secure stroke patients' affected upper limbs to exercise equipment. However, the application of EB can reduce blood flow and lower skin temperature in patients' hands. Furthermore, reduced skin temperature can lead to autonomic nervous reactions, of which heart rate variability (HRV) is an effective indicator. Congenital fiber type disproportion（CFTD）為一非進行性先天性肌肉病變，須經肌肉切片病理確診，其特點為第一型骨骼肌纖維體積比第二型肌纖維至少小12%。現有文獻提及此疾病之臨床表現變異性大，除肌肉無力，可能併有弓狀顎（High-arched palate）、眼肌麻痺症（Ophthalmoplegia）、呼吸障礙等。患者皆因肌肉無力造成顯著功能障礙。本案例為一10歲確診CFTD男童之長期追蹤與復健介入之描述。患者出生時明顯肌張力不全，自四個月起因生長遲滯、吞嚥功能障礙而接受鼻胃管置入，但診斷未明；後續持續安排物理治療與與語言及吞嚥治療，該患者於一歲八個月時開始走路，三歲時成功移除鼻胃管，並於此時才確診CFTD。患者定期接受完整發展評估，結果顯示明顯動作發展遲緩，其社會心理領域評估結果皆為正常範圍。該患者的肌力與肌耐力隨著年紀增大與物理治療介入而有進步。日常生活能力評估於運動部分仍部分依賴。此外，長期追蹤過程發現該患者有多種肌肉病變之併發症，包括脊柱側彎、雞胸（pectus carinatum）、以及關節與肌肉疼痛。物理治療介入以及教導患者以及家屬運用節省能量之日常生活方式，包括輪椅使用、自我安排活動。本病例報告紀錄CFTD肌病變患者之長期追蹤與復健過程，根據患者之狀況設定個人化復健目標，及處理相關之併發症。

Immersive virtual reality (VR) can provide a high level of engagement and distraction analgesia to address pain. However, community-based applications of this technology for older adults have not been studied. The objective of this study was to examine the applicability and effectiveness of an immersive VR intervention for pain, depression, and quality of life (QOL) in older adults. This pretest–posttest, mixed-methods design included senior center members (n = 12) with pain that interfered with daily functioning. A recent study found that almost half (47.9%), of female college athletes participating in basketball, soccer, volleyball and softball (n = 194) suffered a breast injury during their college career with less than 10% reporting their injury to health personnel with only 2.1% receiving treatment [1]. Breast injury in female athletes is under-reported and is lacking a much-needed level of awareness in sport. If there is a void in awareness of breast injuries and in reporting breast injuries, preventive measures as well as any potential sequela from the injury will not be given the necessary attention.

The Y-Balance Test-Lower Quarter has shown promise as a screening tool for identifying athletes at risk of injury. Subsequent studies, utilizing heterogeneous populations or different operational definitions of injury, have presented equivocal findings. Therefore, studies evaluating the efficacy of the Y-Balance Test to discriminate injury risk in a homogeneous population is warranted. One-hundred sixty-nine male (mean age 19.9 + 1.5 y) collegiate basketball players were recruited during 2 consecutive seasons (2016–2017/2017–2018). A thorough needs assessment at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Largo revealed slight dissatisfaction scores on the Press Ganey survey for both the occupational therapy department and discharge planning processes. This quality improvement project, Take Charge for Therapy Discharge, implemented a two-session patient education protocol using the Cognitive Orientation to Occupational Performance (CO-OP) approach. Using the Patient-Specific Functional Scale (PSFS), participants identified and prioritized three therapy goals and rated their perceived current performance. Results demonstrated a significant difference between the participants’ PSFS pre and post-intervention scores. Despite the benefits, children with disabilities do not participate in recreational activities as often as typically developing peers. The purpose of the program was to: 1) describe the benefit of a gymnastics program on a child’s development, and 2) identify the impact of a staff training program. Engagement in the proposed program aimed to ultimately contribute to a child’s involvement in recreational activities, health and quality of life (QOL). BACKGROUND: A key step for increasing the employment outcomes of job seekers with disabilities includes ensuring that employment consultants who assist them have the tools to succeed, including feedback about how they are performing. OBJECTIVE: Supporting employment consultants in their work with job seekers by providing feedback about the implementation of the support strategies recommended in the literature. METHODS: Sixty-one employment consultants completed a daily survey for one year, on their smartphones. A good professional-patient relationship is important to clinical practice, which may be compromised by deception. Deception research in physical therapy is scant. The current study investigated how the topic of patient deception is addressed in Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) educational curriculum, explore DPT students’ beliefs about deception and attitudes toward patient deception, and examine the effects of a pedagogical intervention on DPT students’ beliefs about deception and attitudes toward patient deception. Parkinson disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease with multiple motor and non-motor symptoms, including postural instability, gait impairments, and cognitive deficits. More than 50% of individuals with PD experience a symptom called freezing of gait (FOG), described as a transient inability to take another step forward. Individuals with PD who experience FOG (freezers) have further postural, gait, and cognitive impairments compared to individuals with PD without FOG (non-freezers). Patellofemoral pain (PFP) is one of the most common overuse injuries of the knee. Previous research has found that individuals with PFP exhibit differences in peak hip kinematics; however, differences in peak knee kinematics, where the pain originates, are difficult to elucidate. To better understand the mechanism behind PFP, we sought to characterize differences in knee gait kinematic waveform patterns in individuals with PFP compared to healthy individuals using fast Fourier transform (FFT). Introduction: Ambulation can be used to monitor the healing of lower extremity fractures. However, the ambulatory behavior of tibia fracture patients remains unknown due to an inability to continuously quantify ambulation outside of the clinic. The goal of this study was to design and validate an algorithm to assess ambulation in tibia fracture patients using the ambulatory tibial load analysis system during recovery, outside of the clinic.
