The Department of Language & Literature in Ouachita Baptist University’s School of Humanities honored nine students for their academic and creative writing featured inAssayers 31,” the department’s annual academic journal used for instruction in all Composition I classes. The students were recognized during a fall awards ceremony at the Elrod Center for Family & Community.

Three Ouachita Baptist University students received awards for their nonfiction work featured in “Assayers 30,” the annual publication by Ouachita’s Department of Language and Literature.

The top three winners from this year's publication are Cora Saddler, a senior English and Spanish double major from Cabot, Ark.; Sydney Motl, a sophomore English major from Arkadelphia, Ark.; and Sabaoot Esho, a junior graphic design and psychology double major from Erbil, Iraq. Ouachita Baptist University honored alumna Cathryn Berryman of Dallas, Texas, during its ninth Stepping Up for Ouachita luncheon on Friday, Nov. 16, at the Benton Event Center. Ouachita Baptist University and Henderson State University will simultaneously host the traveling art exhibit, “What Were You Wearing?” The exhibit, which will be located in the McClellan Rotunda at Ouachita and on the first floor of Huie Library at Henderson, will run from April 2-20 for Sexual Assault Awareness Month. An opening reception will be held Tuesday, April 3, from 4-6 p.m. at the Captain Henderson House. The survivor art installation is free and open to the public, and viewers are cautioned that some may find the exhibit’s content disturbing.

Ouachita Baptist University’s Department of Theatre Arts will present Nigel Williams’ “Lord of the Flies” based on William Golding’s original novel of the same name. Performances will be held in Verser Theatre on Ouachita’s campus Nov. 5-7 and Nov. 9-10 at 7:30 p.m. as well as a matinee performance on Nov. 8 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at www.obu.edu/boxoffice.
